Elsasser named to board of College Hockey, Inc. Bowling Green State University associate athletics director Jim Elsasser has been named to the board of College Hockey, Inc., an organization that promotes and markets the sport. The board includes a member from each of the five leagues in the U.S., and the person can be a coach or an athletics department official. Elsasser is the CCHA representative. Also on the board are North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, Vermont athletics director Bob Corran from Hockey East, Rensselaer athletics director Jim Knowlton from the Eastern College Athletic Conference, and Canisius coach Dave Smith of Atlantic Hockey. Smith is a former assistant coach at BG. BG women’s soccer picked last in MAC East Bowling Green’s women’s soccer team was picked last in the Mid-American Conference East Division coaches poll. The Falcons received 17 points. Kent State was first with 64 points. Toledo was picked for first in the West with 69 points. The East poll: 1) Kent, 64; 2) Miami, 52; 3) Buffalo, 51; 4) Akron, 35; 5) Ohio, 33; and 6) BOWLING GREEN, 17. The West poll: 1) Toledo, 69; 2) Central Michigan, 59; 3) Western Michigtan, 47; 4) Ball State, 33; 5) Eastern Michigan, 30; and 6) Northern Illinois, 14. Votes for the MAC tournament champion: Toledo, five; Central, Western, three each; and Ball State, 1. Make-A-Wish auction planned at national tractor pull An auction on Saturday at the National Tractor Pulling championships at the Wood County Fairgrounds will benefit Make-A-Wish. The auction begins at approximately 4 p.m., with past and present Wish Families in attendance. Last year more than $65,000 was raised through the auction to help grant wishes of children in Northwest Ohio who are battling life-threatening medical conditions. This marks the 20th year Make-A-Wish has participated in the tractor pull. Messenger has hole-in-one Steve Messenger from Bowling Green recently had a hole-in-one at Stone Ridge Golf Club. Messenger used an 8-iron to ace the 137-yard 16th hole. 8U travel baseball tryout set There will be a Bowling Green 8U travel baseball team open tryout for any player that will be 8-years-old on or before April 30, 2013 on Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. at Carter Park. Golf tourney set Owens Community College’s Alumni Association is holding its tenth annual Golf Classic on Sept. 24 in support of alumni programs and schoalrships. The golf outing will be held at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. The event will feature 18-holes of golf, lunch, grazing dinner and an awards program. The four-person scramble golf competition begins with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Lunch will precede the golf from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m., followed by a brief golf demonstration at 1 p.m. The tournament is limited to the first 30 foursome teams.
