Pleger earns academic honor
Brooke Pleger became the first Bowling Green State University athlete to earn the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic award in six years.
The BGSU track and field program also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors.
Pleger won the NCAA East Region preliminary in the hammer throw and advanced to the NCAA championships, placing seventh overall in the event to earn first team All-American status.
Athletes must have at least a 3.25 grade-point average to be selected.
As a team, BG met the minimum requirement of a 3.00 team gpa with a 3.02.
Owens volleyball No. 4 in national preseason poll
The Owens Community College Express volleyball team is ranked No. 4 in the National Junior College Athletic Association D-II preseason poll.
The Express advanced to the national semifinals before falling to Cowley County last season. Parkland defeated the Express in the consolation match.
The Express open their season on the road Aug. 23 against Muskegon Community College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
