New MAC bowl game planned for Montgomery, Ala.?
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - According to a story posted on AL.com, the city of Montgomery, Ala. and ESPN are in negotiations for a college football bowl game pairing teams from the Mid-American Conference with the Sun Belt Conference.
The game would start in the 2014 season and be played in the Cramton Bowl.
The Cramton Bowl was built in 1922, but has been renovated in recent years.
It's the host of the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic in January and has a listed capacity of 25,000.
For the MAC, the new bowl game would replace the Little Caesars Bowl, which is in its last year in Detroit.
The MAC and Sun Belt are already matched to the Go Daddy Bowl in Mobile, Ala. Alabama also hosts the BBVA Bowl in Birmingham, matching teams from the SEC and the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Currently the third primary MAC bowl game is the Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho.
