Falcons' Scheps to swim in World Cup
Bowling Green's Joëlle Scheps is swimming in the FINA World Cup in Eindhoven, Netherlands this week.
Scheps, a native of Waddinxveen, Netherlands, will compete in the 100-meter freestyle, 200 free and the 200 individual medley at the World Cup.
Last season, Scheps was named to the All-Mid-American Conference second-team in her first year with the Falcons.
She finished third in the 200 freestyle at the MAC championships, posting a school-record time of 1:48.93 in the finals.

BGSU volleyball earns academic honors
For the 13th consecutive year, the Bowling Green State University volleyball team was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for academic excellence.
The AVCA recognizes volleyball programs across the country who maintain a team grade-point-average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
The BGSU volleyball team earned a 3.55 team GPA in the spring semester.
BG is tied with Toledo and Denver for the second-longest active streak of earning the award, behind just Indiana State which has been recognized in 15 straight years. The AVCA instituted this award in 1993.
The 2012-13 recognition marks the 14th time in the 21-year history of the award that the Falcons have been honored for academic excellence by the AVCA.

Pemberville 5-miler set
PEMBERVILLE - The 32nd annual Pemberville 5-Miler is Aug. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m.
No mail-in or drop-off registrations are being accepted. All pre-registrations must be completed online at
There are 14 age groups. The entry fee is $15, plus an online registration fee, if pre-registered by Friday.
Race day registration is from 4-6:15 p.m. at the Fire Hall and is $25.
There is also a competition for boys and girls high school teams.
A one-mile fun run, starts at approximately 6:10 p.m. It is free and requires no pre-registration.

BG Blast 10U tryouts planned
The Bowling Green Blast travel baseball team is looking for several players to fill its 10U team for next season.
Players must be 10 on April 30, 2014.  
A tryout to be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at Carter Park. The team is open to all players in Northwest Ohio.
