Powers ties for third in Ohio Open
DEFIANCE - Caroline Powers, a graduate of Bowling Green High School, finished in a tie for third in the Ohio Women's Open held at Eagle Rock Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Powers had rounds of 69 and 74 for a 143 total, four strokes behind Jennifer Kirby's 139. Allie White was second at 142 and Powers tied with Erica Popson.
Shimel misses cut at U.S. Women's Amateur
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Alyssa Shimel, an Eastwood High School graduate, finished with a 152 total on rounds of 76-76 at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Shimel is a senior on the University of Michigan golf team.
The cut was at 150 with five players with a 150 in a playoff for the final four spots in match play.
Lily Bartell and Patricia Holt, two members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, improved their scores on the second day event.
However, neither advanced to the match play format.
Holt had a 79 (39-40) on Tuesday, improving by five strokes. She had a 163 total.
Bartell shot 78 (38-40) on Tuesday, improving by three strokes. She had a 159 total.
Walker misses cut
PINEHURST, N.C. - Bowling Green High school junior Trey Walker missed the cut Tuesday at the Big I Championship youth golf tournament at the Country Club of North Carolina.
He shot a 7-over-par 79 Tuesday to finish with a 12-over 156 total. The field was cut to the low 54 and ties.
Walker finished in an eight-way tie for 61st place, missing the cut by one stroke.
Kingston to meet with fans
Chris Kingston, the Bowling Green State University athletics director, will have a meet-and-greet with Falcon fans Friday at Sam B's at noon.
A football promotion for BG's season opener on Aug. 29 against Tulsa is part of the event.
The Links Lassies held a medal play event at Forrest Creason Golf Course Tuesday.
The flight winners were: A, Kay marten, low net and Mary Ann Hillier, low net; B, Fran Sakola, low gross and low net; and C, Pat Patton and Shirley Kausch, low gross and Kausch, low net. Marten used the low number of putts.
12U baseball tryouts set
The Bowling Green 12U Diamond Cats travel baseball team is holding a tryout for the 2014 season on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at Carter Park.
