Falcons' Bayer named to Mackey Award watch list
Bowling Green senior Alex Bayer is on the watch list for the Mackey Award, presented annually to the outstanding collegiate tight end.
Bayer played in all 13 games last season, totaling 36 receptions for 410 yards for a 11.4 average along with three touchdowns. He was a third-team All-Mid-American Conference pick.
Hoops shoots 72 in Ohio Amateur
CANTON - Erik Hoops of Perrysburg shot a 1-over-par 72 Tuesday in the first round of the Ohio Amateur golf tournament at Brookside Golf and Country Club.
Hoops' round included a hole-in-one on the par-3, 180-yard seventh hole.
Corey Richmond of West Union was the leader by three strokes with an 8-under 63. The first round was suspended because of inclement weather. Seventy-two players (half of the field) didn't complete their rounds.
The 72-hole, medal-play tournament continues through Friday.
The Links Lassies held a medal play tournament at Forrest Creason Golf Course.
Joan Slebos had the low gross and low net in Flight A, Pat Koehler had the low gross and the low net in Flight C, and Slebos used the fewest number of putts.
