Friedman drafted by Flyers
PHILADELPHIA — Mark Friedman, who will be a freshman defenseman on the Bowling Green Falcon hockey team
in the fall, was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in Saturday’s National Hockey League Draft.
Friedman was a third-round pick, going 86th overall.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder played for Waterloo in the United States (Junior) Hockey League last season.

Friedman, who is from Toronto, had 10 goals and 37 assists in 63 games covering both the regular-season
and the playoffs. He had on-ice rating of plus-23.
Powers ties for 16th
HARRIS, Mich. — Bowling Green High School graduate Caroline Powers finished in a five-way tie for
16th-place Sunday in the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass Golf Club.
She finished with a 5-over-par 221 total on rounds of 73, 77 and 71.
The tournament is part of the LPGA’s Symetra Tour.
Pleger top collegian in hammer
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Bowling Green State University’s Brooke Pleger finished as the top collegiate hammer
thrower at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships Saturday. The senior-to-be threw the hammer
208-feet-9 to finish 10th among the 18 best hammer throwers in the United States.
Five active college student-athletes qualified for the field and Pleger finished ahead of the other four.

With the finish, Pleger qualifies to compete at the 2014 North America Central America Caribbean U-23
Championships in Kamloops, British Columbia Aug. 8-10 with hammer throw taking place on the first day of
competition.
