Powers ties for 52nd
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Caroline Powers, a Bowling Green High School graduate, finished in a tie for 52nd in her second professional golf tournament.
Powers shot a 1-over-par 217 on rounds of 70, 72, 75 in the Four Winds Invitational at Blackthorn Country Club as part of the LPGA Symetra Tour.
Three players were tied at 8-under 208 after 54 holes and Cydney Clanton won the tournament title in a seven-hole playoff.

Pleger 11th in hammer throw
DES MOINES, IOWA. - Brooke Pleger, a Bowling Green State University redshirt sophomore, was 11th in the hammer throw at the USA outdoor track and field championships Saturday.
Pleger's throw of 208-9 was the second furthest among the four collegians in the 16-person field and less than three feet shy of qualifying for the finals.
Amanda Bingson, of the New York Athletic Club, set an American record with a 248-5 throw to win the event.
The top collegiate finisher was Arizona State's Chelsea Cassulo, who threw 223-11 to place sixth. Akron's Brittany Funk was 12th at 208-5.  
The meet capped off a tremendous year for Pleger, who won the Mid-American Conference Championship in the hammer throw, breaking the MAC championship record in the process. She was named the MAC most outstanding field athlete for the year, won the NCAA East Region preliminary round and was seventh at the NCAA national championship, earning first team All-American status.

BGSU plans football ladies night
The Bowling Green State University football team will host Ladies Night at The Doyt on July 18 from 6-9 at the Sebo Athletic Center.
Registration begins at 5.
The women's camp features a classroom session, locker room activities, on-field drills and a post-game social hour.
Cost of the event is $45 pre-registered and $50 walk-up. All attendees will pay on arrival and receive a camp T-shirt, one ticket to the 2012 home opener versus Tulsa along with food and drink.

Two BGSU golfers compete in Texas
THE COLONY,  Texas - Two members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, Patricia Holt and Shelby Wilson, recently competed in the Texas Women's Open Golf Championship.
Holt tied for 14th with a 36-hole score of 153 (72-81), while Wilson tied for 42nd with a 162 (80-82).
The tournament featured professionals and amateurs from the state of Texas. A total of 78 golfers competed in the two day event.

Elmwood basketball golf outing planned
JERRY CITY - The annual Elmwood boys basketball golf outing is Aug. 10 at Loudon Meadows Golf Club in Fostoria.
The cost is $50 person/$200 per team.
The cost includes a gift, green fees, cart, lunch, snacks, and door prizes.
Men's and women's prizes are available and male, female, and mixed teams are welcome.

Elmwood CC meeting set
JERRY CITY - Anyone interested in running cross country for Elmwood High School or Middle School this fall should attend a parent/athlete meeting on Thursday in the Auditeria at Elmwood High School at 7 p.m.
It is an informational meeting and the Ohio High School Athletic Association sportsmanship video will be shown.
