Owens athletes earn national academic honors
Nine athletes and two teams from Owens Community College have received academic awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
David Ortega-Gonzalez, a sophomore on the men's soccer team, had a a 4.0 grade-point average, which earned him the Pinnacle Award for academic excellence.
Melanie Iacoangeli of the softball team earned a 3.86 GPA and was awarded superior academic achievement honors.
Seven other athletes earned exemplary academic achievement honors.
They were Dane Davis, 3.78 GPA; Luke Berger, golf, 3.76; Molly Hilfinger, volleyball, 3.74; Hannah Shank, softball, 3.7; Amanda Sinay, softball, 3.7; Alex Roberts, golf, 3.64; and April DeCant, softball, 3.6.
The softball team (3.31 GPA) and volleyball (3.19) teams also were honored.
