Pairings set for Cancun Challenge
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will face Wisconsin and St. Louis stateside before heading to Mexico to face Presbyterian in the 2013 Cancun Challenge.
The Falcons will play at Wisconsin on Nov. 21 and then at St. Louis two days later. Bowling Green plays Presbyterian on Nov. 26 in Mexico. The winner of the BGSU-Presbyterian game will face the Oral Roberts-Georgia Southern winer on Nov. 27 and the losers of each contest will also play that day.
The tournament features eight men's NCAA Division I college basketball teams with eight games in the United States and eight games in Mexico.
Old Dominion, Saint Louis, West Virginia and Wisconsin headline the host teams for the games played in the U.S. and are joined by Bowling Green, Georgia Southern, Oral Roberts, and Presbyterian.
Rising Starz reach goal
The local Rising Starz figure skating team has reached its fundraising goal and will be participating in Skate For Hope Saturday at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The event starts at 5 p.m.
The event benefits breast cancer research and awareness. Skate for Hope has raised over $430,000 for cancer research and donates its proceeds to the Stefanie Speilman Fund and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.
The 14 skaters on Rising Starz have raised approximately $15,000.
Golf outing planned for Challenger Little League
A golf outing to benefit the Greater Toledo Challenger Little League is planned for June 22 at Tanglewood. The shotgun start is at 7:30 a.m.
The Challenger Little League is for children with mental and physical disabilities. Approximately 20 players from Wood County participate in the league.
The registration deadline for the golf outing is Wednesday.
