Pleger earns All-America honors
Bowling Green State University's Brooke Pelger has been named a first-team All-American by The US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
First-team honors are awarded to those who earn any portion of a point at the national championships or reach an eight-entrant field. Second-team All-America honors are handed out to those who place ninth through 16th at the national championship. Those who participated at the national championship but did not place in the top 16 are named honorable mention.
A redshirt sophomore, Pleger placed seventh at the NCAA Division I outdoor track and field national championships in the hammer throw.
Pleger is the fifth student-athlete in BGSU women's track and field history to earn All-American status.
Rossford to name field for Baumgartner
ROSSFORD - The Board of Education voted unanimously Monday night to name the district's baseball field after long-time coach Jerry Baumgartner.
Baumgartner coached the team for 25 years, starting in 1969.
A formal dedication of the diamond will be scheduled for a home game next spring, said Bev Koch, the board member who made motion.
Coed softball meeting set
RUDOLPH - A meeting for a coed softball league is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Rudolph Ball Field.
The Links Lassies held a medal play event at Forrest Creason Golf Course.
The flight winners were: A, Kay Marten, low gross and low net; B, Joan McCormick, low gross and Terri Glick, low net; C, Sally Amos, low gross and low net; and low putts, Glick.
