Fogarty finalist for Anchorage coaching position
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Bowling Green Falcon assistant hockey coach Ron Fogarty is one of six finalists for the head coaching position at Alaska-Anchorage, the school announced Monday.
Fogarty, an assistant coach at BG from 2002-06, is the head coach at NCAA Division III member Adrian College, The Bulldogs are 145-20-6 during his seven seasons there.
The other finalists are Marian head coach Chris Brown; Air Force assistant Mike Corbett; Kevin Hartzell, a former head coach of two teams in the United States (Junior) Hockey League, most recently at Sioux Falls; Dartmouth assistant coach Dave Peters; and Matthew Thomas, the head coach of the Stockton (Calif.) Thunder in the East Coast Hockey League.
Individual interviews will be held Thursday through June 14. Fogarty's interview is June 11.
Anchorage fired coach Dave Shyiak after eight losing seasons, the last two ending with last-place finishes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The Seawolves were 4-25-7 overall and 2-20-6 in the WCHA last season.
BG is a member of the WCHA.
County players selected for Fostoria football game
FOSTORIA - Eight players from Wood County high schools have been selected to play in the Fostoria Athletic Boosters all-star football game.
Ben Swartz and Jacob Hankish of Lake, Kody Brewer of Lakota, and Mark Skala and Ryan Clay of Rossford will play for the East team.
Trey Loescher of Bowling Green, and Dalton Ishmael and Jady Snyder of North Baltimore will play for the West team.
The game is June 22 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
NB physicals set for Thursday
NORTH BALTIMORE - North Baltimore schools are hosting their sports physical night for all area athletes Thursday from 5-6:15 p.m. for all junior high athletes and 6:15-7:30 p.m. for all high school athletes.
The cost will be $25, cash only please. The state physical forms can be found on the NB athletic website or on the OHSAA website.

BG's Applegate, Lane honored
Bowling Green Middle School students Natalie Applegate and Nick Lane have been selected to receive the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.
The award, named for two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to a male and female student who has been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship, ethics and integrity in their school and community.
Applegate participated in cross country, wrestling, and track this year. She was fifth in the Northern Lakes League cross country meet and was second in the 1,600 at the NLL track championships.
Lane participated in basketball and track this year. He set Bowling Green Middle School records for shot put and discus and was also the NLL champion in both events.
Running school planned
The Go the Distance Running School is June 17-21.
The week-long camp is for runners ages 12-and-older and it will focus on the motivation, knowledge, and skill needed to be a better distance runner as well as goal setting and self-discipline.
Athletes will be interacting and learning from experts in their fields: physicians, physical therapists, massage therapists, coaches, nutritionists, and extremely successful runners.
The school will be at a different Toledo Metropark each day from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Tuition for the running school is $250. Every registered athlete will receive a pair of custom fit training shoes, discount coupon for spikes, technical fabric shirt, and fluid bottle. Discounts are available and enrollment is limited.

Northwood soccer club plans tryouts
NORTHWOOD - The Northwood Girls Soccer Club will be conducting tryouts for girls U8 through U12 on June 15 from 10-11:30 a.m. at Brentwood Park in Northwood.
