Powers ties for 28th place
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bowling Green High School graduate Caroline Powers finished in an eight-way tie for 29th place in the LPGA's Symetra Classic.
Powers shot a 1-under-par 71 during Saturday's final round to finish at 1-over 217.

Welch wins NCAA championship
ALLENDALE, Mich - Eastwood High School graduate and University of Findlay junior Justin Welch won the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II track and field championships over the weekend.
Welch, who won an indoor national title in the weight throw earlier this year, thew 229-1 to win the hammer by almost 13 feet.
He's the school-record holder in the hammer at 233-7. The mark, which was set May 9 at the Toledo Invitational is the second-best throw in NCAA Division II history.
Welch also finished second in the discus at the nationals, throwing a school-record 187-1.
