Falcon baseball loses to Kent
AVON – Bowling Green’s baseball team was a 6-2 loser Wednesday to Kent State in the first round of the
Mid-American Conference tournament at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Kent scored five times in the bottom of the fourth to break open a scoreless game.
BG had just six hits, all singles, including two by Patrick Lancaster.
Falcon starting pitcher Mike Frank allowed five runs (all earned) on six hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck
out three and walked one.
The Falcons, 25-26 overall and seeded fifth, try to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament this
morning at 9:30 against eighth-seeded Western Michigan (22-30).
Kent, the No. 4 seed, improved to 33-21.
Pleger, Pettigrew earn All-MAC honors
CLEVELAND – Bowling Green redshirt junior Brooke Pleger was named to the All-Mid-American Conference
women’s track and field first-team, and senior Jeanette Pettigrew earned second-team honors for their
performances in the MAC meet last weekend.
Pleger broke her own MAC championship record in the hammer throw, throwing 218-9.
Pettigrew also was second in the 100 and third in the 200, and fifth in the long jump. She also ran a leg
on the 400 relay team that was fifth and anchored the 1,600 relay that was eighth.
Owens golf tied for second
PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Owens Community College’s men’s golf team remained tied for second place in the NJCAA
Division II national tournament Wednesday at Swan Lake Resort’s Black Course.
Walters State (Tenn.) leads with a 593 total, while Owens and Mesa (Ariz.) CC are two strokes back.
Owens’ Brandon Hoelzer is tied for fifth individually with a 2-over-par 146, including a second-round
146. Teamate Philippe Weppernig is tied for 10th (74-147).
Owens’ other scores were: Harrison Long, 74-148; Kirby Manown, 78-154; and Dru Hein, 83-165.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes today and Friday.
Also Wednesday, Hoelzer was named a first-team All-American and a first-team all-region selection.
Weppernig and Long also were named to the all-region team, and Long was named to the all-freshman team.
