Jans completes coaching staff
Corey Baker has been named an assistant men’s basketball coach for the Bowling Green State University
men’s basketball team.
"I am thrilled to add Corey Barker to our team of coaches. Coach Barker has a track record of
building relationships with young people and mentoring them as they grow and mature both on and off the
floor," BG head coach Chris Jans said. ”Corey has been associated with winning basketball programs
and will add to our overall development as a program."
Barker comes to BG after serving as a member of the Arkansas State University men’s basketball coaching
staff for the past two seasons.
In his two years on the bench at Arkansas State, the Red Wolves posted back-to-back 19-win seasons and
totaled 38 wins overall.
The Red Wolves also advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament in both
2012-13 and 2013-14.
"I am extremely excited about joining Coach Jans and the staff at BGSU," Barkersaid. "I
love the passion that all the coaches have towards recruiting and winning at a high level. I feel like
we can do something special here at BGSU."
BG’s Pettigrew, Pleger earn MAC honors
CLEVELAND – Bowling Green State University’s Jeanette Pettigrew is the Mid-American Conference female
track athlete of the week and teammate Brooke Pleger was the MAC co-field athlete of the week.
Pettigrew broke her own school record in the 200 (23.80) and added a personal best in the 100 at the Mt.
SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Pleger set a Kentucky Track and Field Complex facility record in the hammer
throw at the Kentucky Relays, with a throw of 211-5.
BG women’s basketball has 3 on Academic All-MAC Team
CLEVELAND – Three Bowling Green State University women’s basketball seniors, Jillian Halfhill, Alexis
Rogers and Jill Stein have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.
Junior Deborah Hoekstra and sophomore Miriam Justinger, earned honorable mention. For the second year in
a row, BGSU had the most players named to the team. BG’s totals of three first-team selections and five
overall winners led all MAC schools.
Halfhill, Hoekstra and Stein all are repeat winners, having earned honorable mention a year ago. BG also
led all conference schools last year, with six total honorees to the Academic All-MAC Team in the
2012-2013 season.
Owens baseball wins twice
PORT HURON, Mich. – The Owens Community College baseball team scored 14 runs over two games on Wednesday
to defeat the St. Clair County Community College Skippers on the road.
The Express won game one 7-3 and game two, 7-6 in eight innings.
Owens was successful on the base path going 10-for-10 on stolen bases during the two games.
In the opener, Owens’ Tyrus McAtee had two hits, Alec Skender and Charlie Sipe each had two RBI, and
Tiger Jaso, from Lakota High School, was 1-for-4.
In the second game for Owens, Jaso, Skender, Kody McCall, and Justin Curry each had two hits and Chad
Lupher had two RBI.
The Express are 11-22.
Perrysburg-Maumee fishing tourney set
PERRYSBURG – The third annual Perrysburg vs. Maumee fishing tournament is May 3 at Side Cut Park in
Maumee.
Student, staff and friends from Maumee or Perrysburg are eligible to participate in the tournament. The
rain date will be May 10.
Individual teams of two will be formed from both schools. There is no limit on the number of teams that
can enter. This is a rod and reel tournament only. The tackle is unlimited.

All teams must be registered by the end of the school day on May 1.
The fishing is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with measuring at 2:30 p.m.
Participants will be required to follow all Ohio Department of Natural of Resources rules and have the
appropriate license to fish. Participants over the age of 16 must posses a fishing license.
Hole-in-one recorded
NORTH BALTIMORE – Gary Stearns, from Wayne, recorded a hole-in-one at Birch Run Golf Club. He used a
6-iron to ace the 160-yard par-3 eighth hole.
Indians edge Mud Hens
TOLEDO – Indianapolis scored four times in the top of the fourth inning in a 7-5 win over Toledo
Thursday. The Mud Hens are 8-13 in the International League West.
Hernan Perez hit two doubles for Toledo and Trevor Crowe had two RBI.
