Falcon baseball wins
CINCINNATI - Brent Fitzwater and three relievers combined on a five-hitter Tuesday to lead Bowling Green's baseball team to a 9-0 nonconference win over Xavier.
Fitzwater went the first five innings, allowing five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Jason Link, Devin Daugherty and Nick Bruns worked the final four innings, striking out four and walking two.
Brandon Howard was 3-for-5 with three runs and a run batted in for BG, while T.J. Losby was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. One of Losby's hits was a home run.
Also for BG, Jesse Rait was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Nick Glanzman was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The Falcons are 14-20 overall, while Xavier is 21-18.

BG softball splits
Paris Imholz pitched a four-hitter and Paige Berger hit a three-run home run to lead Bowling Green's softball team to a 7-1 win over Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne and a split of the nonleague doubleheader.
IPFW was a 6-4 winner in Game 1.
Berger opened the scoring with her homer in the third and it was enough for Imholz, who struck out four and walked three. Berger finished 2-for-3 with two runs and four runs batted in.
In Game 1, IPFW scored six runs in the fifth to erase a 2-0 deficit.
BG's Marissa Shook was 2-for-3 with a run scored, a two-run single and a two-run homer.
The Falcons are 24-18 overall, while IPFW is 24-12.

Six Falcons earn All-MAC academic recognition
CLEVELAND - Six Bowling Green State University women's basketball players have been named to the academic All-Mid-American Conference team.
BG senior Chrissy Steffen and junior Jill Stein were selected to the first-team.
Steffen earns the academic All-MAC team honor for the second consecutive season after earning honorable mention as a sophomore in 2010-11.  
Steffen, an adolescent/young adult/secondary education major, has a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average through the fall 2012 semester.
Stein was an honorable-mention choice last season. A mild-moderate intervention specialist major, Stein has a 3.96 cumulative GPA through the fall 2012 semester.
The Falcons also had four players earn honorable mention to the 2012-13 team - seniors Danielle Havel and Allison Papenfuss, junior Jillian Halfhill and sophomore Deborah Hoekstra.

Prep makeup dates announced
The Bowing Green at Perrysburg and Rossford at Elmwood varsity baseball and softball games have been rescheduled for May 20. The junior varsity baseball game will be played at Rossford.
The Fostoria at Lake varsity baseball and softball games will be made up May 2.

Church softball league has openings
OREGON - The United Brotherhood men's slow-pitch church softball league has openings for interested teams.
All games are played at the Oregon Parks and Recreation fields.

Frank Elementary golf outing May 4
PERRYSBURG - The fifth annual Frank Elementary Parents Club golf outing is May 4 at Stone Ridge with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Bruce Gradkowski will attend the outing.
