Steffen named BG womens's player of the year
Chrissy Steffen was named the player of the year on the Bowling Green Falcon women's basketball team. The team held its awards banquet Sunday night.
Steffen also received the Fran and Marty Voll Senior Achievement Award.
Also receiving awards were: Danielle Havel, Falcon Award, given to the person or persons who embody qualities such as dedication, commitment, effort and being the ultimate team player; Alexis Rogers, power player of the year; Jill Stein, impact player of the year; Jillian Halfhill, playmaker of the year; Miriam Justinger, most improved; and Deborah Hoekstra, Bailey Cairnduff, scholar-athletes of the year.

Falcon baseball sweeps; Schmitz at 599 wins
TOLEDO - Bowling Green's baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Toledo with a  6-3 win in a Mid-American Conference game Sunday. The Falcons scored four times in the final three innings to erase a 3-2 deficit.
Nine different Falcons had hits, including Logan Walker with three, and Jesse Rait with two. Rait also had two RBI.
Trevor Blaylock, Ethan McKenney and Nick Bruns pitched a six-hitter and struck out five for BG.
Elmwood High School graduate Ben Hammer was 0-for-2 with a run scored and two walks for Toledo.
On Saturday, BG totaled 18 hits in a 14-1 win.
Patrick Lancaster and Andrew Kubuski each had three hits for BG, and T.J. Losby, Rait and Brandon Howard each had two. Kubuski, Losby, Rait, Logan Walker and Nick Glanzman each had two RBI. Walker hit a home run.

Hammer was 1-for-3. Perrysburg graduate Alec Schmenk pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for Toledo, allowing three his and one walk.
The sweep gave BG coach Danny Schmitz 599 career wins. The Falcons visit Notre Dame Tuesday, and host Akron in a MAC series next weekend.

BG softball loses twice
Kent State's softball team was a 1-0, 5-1 winner over Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader Sunday at Meserve Field.
BG had just seven hits in the two games, including three singles by Paige Berger in the first game. Berger's singles were BG's only hits in Game 1.
Chloe Giordano singled twice for BG in Game 2.
BG's Jamie Kertes pitched a four-hitter in the first game with seven strikeouts and no walks.
BG is 21-15 overall and 5-7 in the MAC East Division. Kent is 19-14-1, 9-3 MAC East.

Falcon women's golf finishes third
Bowling Green's women's golf team finished third Sunday in the 15-team Delores Black Invitational at Stone Ridge.
Detroit won with a 618 total, followed by Indianapolis (633) and BG (635). BG and Detroit entered the final round tied.
BG's Amy Ruthenberg finished ninth with a 158 total. She was tied for the lead after Saturday's 77, but shot an 81 Sunday.
Other BG scores were: Bailey Arnold, tied for 16th, 83-77-160; Shelby Wilson, tied for 16th, 80-80-160; Lily Bartell, tied for 16th, 84-76-160; and Hannah Lewis, tied for 27th, 82-80-162.
BG's B team finished 12th with a 674.
Patricia Holt led the B team with a  161 on rounds of 87 and 74. Perrysburg High School graduate Lauren Diehl added a 168 on rounds of 91 and 77. The 77 was Diehl's best as a Falcon.

Falcon tennis loses
Miami's women's tennis team was a 4-3 winner over Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference match at the Perrysburg Tennis Center Saturday.
Miami is 10-12 overall and leads the MAC with a 6-1 record, while BG is 15-4 overall and 4-3 in the MAC to tie Ball State and Western Michigan for third place.
BG's Mary Hill and Jade Johnson won at No. 3 doubles, giving Johnson her 100th career victory.

BG's Carrillo finishes 12th
MESA, Ariz. - Bowling Green Falcon swimmer Daniela Carrillo finished 12th in the 100 breast stroke final at the Arena Grand Prix.
She had a time of 1:12.57 in the B Final.
Carrillo also was disqualified the 200 breast.
The competition at Mesa is the fourth stop in the Arena Grand Prix Series, which concludes in Santa Clara, Calif., May 30-June 2.

Owens golf wins twice
Owens Community College's men's golf team won two Ohio Community College Athletic Conference tournaments.
On Thursday, Owens shot a 284 total for its victory.
Owens' Blaze Hogan won a 3-under-par 69 to take medalist honors. Other scores for the Express were: Darren Fessner, Brandon Hoelzer, each 70; and Tim Dawkins, 75.
On Friday, Owens won with a 292 total.
Luke Berger led Owens with a 1-under 71, while Jason Glass shot a 73, and Gessner and Hoelzer both had a 74.
