BGSU softball wins twice
VALPARAISO, Ind. - Bowling Green State University's softball team beat Valparaiso in a nonleague doubleheader Tuesday, 6-3 and 5-0. The Falcons are 20-12 overall.
In the opener, Paige Berger was 3-for-4 and Katie Yoho hit a three-run home run for the Falcons.
In the second game, Jamie Kertes pitched a four-hit shutout for the Falcons, striking out four and not walking a batter. The game was called in the middle of the seventh inning due to darkness.
Erika Stratton was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Falcons and Emily McClelland also drove in two runs.
Also, Berger is the Mid-American Conference East Division softball player of the week.
The senior first baseman, batted .500 and had an .571 on-base percentage in six games last week, helping BG go 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. She also had nine hits, three home runs, nine runs, 20 total bases and a 1.111 slugging percentage.

Falcon baseball wins
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University baseball team beat Ball State, 7-5, in a nonconference game Tuesday. The Falcons are 8-19 overall.
Jesse Rait and Nick Glanzman each had two hits for the Falcons.

Three county athletes
earn All-Ohio academic honors
WHEELERSBURG - Haley Glandorff of Bowling Green and Brittany Gross and Zach Foster of Elmwood earned All-Ohio academic honors from the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. All three are seniors.
A Division II selection, Glandorff averaged 11.1 points per game and has a 4.0 grade-point-average.
A Division III selection, Gross average 13.9 ppg and also had a 4.00 GPA.
In boys Division III, Foster averaged 16.2 ppg and has a 4.00 GPA.
Ten players were recognized in each division.

Deadline extended to purchase tickets BG youth fundraiser
The registration deadline for the inaugural Youth Sports Fundraiser Dinner on April 20 has been extended until next Tuesday.
Tickets are $30 and will benefit Bowling Green Parks and Recreation's youth sports programs. The fundraiser will help purchase sports equipment, training and coaching materials for Bowling Green's youth sports.
Gregory Kelser is the guest speaker.
The event will take at the Bowling Green Community Center and doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at the Community Center or registration forms can be found by clicking on parks and recreation at www.bgohio.org.

Benedict memorial outing set
NORTH BALTIMORE - The Andrew Benedict golf outing is May 18 at Birch Run Golf Club.
The format is a four-man scramble, stroke play, with no handicap. The shotgun start is at 8:30 a.m.
The cost is $200 per team and the event is limited to the first 20 teams to signup and pay at the Birch Run pro shop. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart and lunch for each golfer.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the North Baltimore Sports Boosters in memory of Andrew Benedict.
