Australians commit to BGSU football
In a news release from the International Federation of American Football, Australians Dylan Harrison and
Elijah Sinapati have made commitments to play football at Bowling Green State University.
A spokesman from the BGSU athletic communications staff said the two have not signed national letters of
intent and that BGSU could not comment on the commitments.
According to the news release, the pair were discovered last year at the Gridiron Australia Future Stars
Camp on the Gold Coast.
Harrison is listed as 6-foot-7, 336 pounds, and Sinapati is 6-5, 310.
Paul Manera is the national coach for the Australian national team is reported as having helped Harrison
and Sinapati obtain their scholarships. Manera played collegiately at the University of Hawaii from
1989-91.
Falcon football opener moved to Aug. 29
Western Kentucky announced on Tuesday that Bowling Green State University football’s season opener
against the Hilltoppers has been moved to Aug. 29.
The game is at Western Kentucky.
The game has been moved at the request of Conference USA to accommodate the league’s television partners,
who are CBS Sports Network and the Fox Sports Media Group.
BGSU volleyball makes awards
The Bowling Green State University volleyball team recently announced its award winners from the 2013
season.
The winners were: Outstanding Community Service Award – Desi Klaer; Patricia Peterson Academic
Achievement Award – Laura Avila and Erica Fullenkamp; Most Improved Player – Kelsey Bates; Most Valuable
Player – Lindsey Butterfield; Coaches Award – Erica Fullenkamp; and William J. Lloyd BGSU Volleyball
Supporter of the Year, Chris and Dianne Burch.
Owens softball splits
Thirteenth-ranked Owens Community College’s softball team posted an 8-0 win over No. 8 Mercyhurst
Northeast Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Mercyhurst earned a split with a 10-1 win in Game 2.
In Game 1, Elmwood High School graduate Brittany George was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI.
She opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning and added a two-run double in the
fourth for a 7-0 lead.
Emily Rockman and Taylor Miller each added two hits for Owens, and Lesley Ducat pitched a five-hitter,
striking out eight and walking none.
Rockman homered in Game 2.
Owens is 10-2, while Mercyhurst is 16-3.
