Pleger shatters school record
Bowling Green State University's Brooke Pleger posted a record mark in the hammer throw as the Falcon track and field team competed at two separate events Saturday. The split squads competed at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, and the Toledo Collegiate Challenge, hosted by the University of Toledo.
Pleger threw the hammer 212-feet-6 to break the meet and facility record in North Carolina. Her distance ranks third in the country currently and has only been bettered in the MAC outdoor track and field championship one time in history. The previous school record of 191-7 was set by Whitney Hartman, from Eastwood High School, in 2008 and the Raleigh Relays meet record had stood since 1999.
In addition, the 800-meter relay team of Jeanette Pettigrew, Taylor Rambo, Brittany Sinclair and Allison Weimer set a school record with a time of 1:37.80 in North Carolina. The old record of 1:38.95 was set in 1995.

Bowling Green and Eastwood both swept in baseball, and Rossford won twice in softball to open the season Saturday.
Bowling Green was a 5-2, 7-4 winner over Genoa and Eastwood posted a 5-1, 8-4 sweep of Northwood.
In softball, Rossford swept a doubleheader from Swanton. 10-0 and 19-1.

In Genoa, BG had 15 hits en route to its sweep.

Eastwood 5, Northwood 1
Eastwood 8, Northwood 4
In Luckey, Ryan Mang was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run batted in for Eastwood in the first game, and Jake Schmeltz was 2-for-4 in the second game.

SOFTBALL
Rossford 10, Swanton 0
Rossford 19, Swanton 1
In Swanton, Rossford pounded out 27 hits in the doubleheader.
In the 10-0 win, Mandi Longeway was 2-for-5 with a home run, double and five RBI. Kelly Swope and Maggie Leahy each added two hits and Margo Jackson had two RBI. The Bulldogs had six extra-base hits in the game.
In the 19-1 win, Jessica Kulczak was 3-for-3 with a home run, double and six RBI while Maddie York was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI. Swope also hit a home run while Lyndsey Skala was 3-for-5 and Hannah Gauthier was 2-for-2. The Bulldogs had seven extra-base hits in the game.

Junior varsity results
BASEBALL
Northwood and Eastwood split a doubleheader. Northwood won the first game 10-0 and Eastwood was a 12-8 winner in the second game.

 

Falcon softball splits
Adrienne Dick was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in Saturday to lead Bowling Green to a 5-1 over Miami in Game 2 of their doubleheader and a split of the doubleheader.
Miami was a 3-2 winner in the first game.
Dick hit a two-run single to open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when BG took a 3-0 lead.
Paige Berger and Erika Stratton also had two hits for BG, and Jamie Kertes pitched an eight-hitter with four strikeouts.
In the first game, BG scored twice in the seventh but still fell a run short.
Five different Falcons singled, including Marissa Shook, who also had two RBI.
BG is 13-11 overall and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Miami is 7-19, 3-1.
BG baseball splits
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - T. J. Losby was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in to help Bowling Green to a 9-5 win over Central Michigan in the first game of their Mid-American Conference doubleheader Saturday.
In the second game, Central scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and post a 5-3 win.
Brian Bien added two hits for BG in the first game, and relievers Ethan McKenney and Nick Bruns held Central scoreless over the final 3 2/3 innings.
In the second game, BG's Matt Smith, Jeremy Shay and Jesse Rait each had two hits.
Both teams are 2-4 in the MAC. BG is 6-16 overall, while Central is 11-14.

Owens baseball loses twice
Lakeland Community College defeated Owens CC, 8-6 and 15-4 in doubleheader Saturday.
In the opener, Lakeland scored three times in the top of the ningth to help secure the win.
Ryan Horvarth was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Dominic Bucci was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Owens.
In Game 2, Lakeland CC scored 13 times in third inning in a game called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Horvath was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Nate Manis had three stolen bases for Owens.
Owens is 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
