Powers ties for 8th
LAKE WALES, Fla. – Caroline Powers, a Bowling Green High School graduate, tied for eighth in the
Florida’s Natural Charity Classic over the weekend.
Powers finished at 1-under-par 215 on rounds of 71, 72, and 72.
Yueer Cindy Feng was the tournament winner with a 9-under 207.
The tournament is part of the Symetra Tour, the LPGA futures tour.
BGSU gymnasts finish third
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team was third at the Mid-American
Conference championships Saturday, the team’s best finish in the event since 1991.
The Falcons improved two places from a year ago. Central Michigan won the meet with a 196.475 total. BG
finished with a 194.625.
BG’s Amanda Lievendag earned an individual MAC title on vault, tying Kent State’s Marie Case for the best
score with a 9.850.
BG’s other leaders were: Megan Harringon, 9.850 on the floor exercise; Lievendag, 9.825 on the uneven
parallel bars; and Megam Valentini, Rachel Reis, and Alyssa Nocella, 9.700 on the balance beam.
BG’s Lauren Feely was named the conference’s freshman of the year.
Falcon baseball loses twice
MUNCIE, Ind, – Ball State swept a doubleheader from the Bowling Green Falcon baseball team, 3-2 and 4-3
Saturday.
The Falcons are 6-15 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
In the opener, Greg Basalyga was 2-for-3 and Jeremy Shay hit a two-run double for the Falcons. Mike Frank
pitched 7 2/3 innings to keep the Falcons in the game.
In the second game, Brian Bien hit a two-run double, Logan Walker was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and T.J. Losby
was 2-for-4.
Ball State’s Zach Plesac pitched 9 1/3 innings in the three-game weekend series, earning a win and two
saves.
BGSU softball splits
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bowling Green Falcon softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Sacred Heart before
beating St. Peters, 9-1 in the WMBC Spring Classic. BG went 3-1 in the tournament and is 9-14-1 overall.

In the opener, five different Falcons each had a hit and Trista Mokienko drove in BG’s only run.
In the second game, Katie Yoho, Erika Stratton, and Mokienko each hit a home run for the Falcons. Yoho
added a double and had four RBI. Chelsa Raker also had two hits and an RBI for BG.
Falcon tennis rallies for win
PERRYSBURG – The Bowling Green State University tennis team rallied for a 4-3 win over Western Saturday
in the Falcons’ Mid-American Conference opener. BG is 6-4 overall.
Katie Brozovich’s 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) win at third singles secured the victory for the Falcons.
BG’s Nikki Chiricosta is now the career record-holder in two categories – singles wins and combined
victories.
Her doubles win Saturday was the 179th overall victory of her BG career, moving her past her sister on
that list. She finished the day with 180 total victories.
Chiricosta’s total of 90 singles victories moved her past her sister into the top spot all-time.
BGSU men’s golfers 14th
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team shot a 1-under 287 in the final
round of the Desert Shootout Saturday.
Brigham Young and UM-Kansas City each finished with an 833 total to top the 15-team field, and UMKC won
the team title on the first playoff hole. The Falcons finished 14th with an 855 total.
BG’s scores were: Jose Narro, 218, tied for 46th; Chris Melvin, 220, tied for 54; Joe Cooper, 223, tied
for 67th; Ryan Triller, 224, tied for 69th; and Brett Rinker, 229, tied for 78th.
