BGSU tennis wins 11th straight
GRIFFITH, Ind. - With its 5-2 win over Illinois-Chicago on Sunday, the Bowling Green State University won its 11th straight match, equaling the school record.
Additionally, senior Maddy Eccleston tied the BG career record for doubles wins. Eccleston teamed with fellow Katie Grubb for an 8-4 win at the second flight, for her 89th doubles victory. She tied the school record set by Christine Chiricosta (2008-11).
Other BG winners Sunday were: singles, Emily Reuland, Nikki Chiricosta; Katie Brozovich; and Mary Hill.
In addition to Eccleston and Grubb, Chiricosta and Reuland also won a double match.
On Saturday at the Perrysburg Tennis Center, BG beat Butler, 5-2.
BG's winners were: singles, Chiricosta; Eccleston; Brozovich; and Grubb.
The Falcons' double winners were: Chiricosta and Reuland; Eccleston and Grubb; and Hill and Jade Johnson.
The Falcons are 11-1.
Falcon softball sweeps Dayton
DAYTON - Bowling Green's softball team improved to 10-7 overall Saturday with a 3-0, 4-3 sweep of Dayton (6-12).
In the first game, BG's Paris Imholz pitched a five-hitter, striking out five and walking none.
Katie Yoho was 3-for-4 for BG with a solo home run, while Hannah Hulk hit a solo homer.
In the second game, BG's Paige Berger was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Fulk was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Imholz earned a save in the second game, the ninth of her career to set a school record.
The previous record of eight was shared by Vicki Miwa (1986-88) and Lisa Mountjoy (1992-95).
Falcon baseball goes 0-3
NORMAL, Ill. -Illinois State defeated the Bowling Green State University baseball team, 6-3 Sunday.
Brandon Howard had two hits and an RBI for the Falcons, 4-12
On Saturday, Illinois State posted 3-1 and 5-0 wins.
In the opener, Matt Smith each BG's only hit as BG had an unearned run.
Jesse Rait and Smith each had two hits in the second game for the Falcons with Rait and Jermey Shay each hitting a double.
BG gymnasts win
The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team beat Western Michigan, 195.175-192.950 Saturday to close out the regular season.
The Falcons' score was the sixth-best in school history and marked the first time BGSU has broken the 195 mark since 2005.
BG was led by all-around performances from Megan Harrington (39.025) and Alyssa Nocella (38.85), who each matched their career bests to finish first and second.
Other BG leaders were: Jamilah Ali, vault (9.875); Amanda Lievedag, uneven bars, 9.875; Harrington, beam, 9.825; and Gina Locigno, floor exercise, 9.9.
Owens baseball splits
The Owens Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Muskegon CC Sunday, winning 10-5 in the opener and losing 7-3 in the second game.
Nate Manis and Logan Shullick each had three hits in the opener while Shullick and Austin Cowan each had two hits.
In the second game, Manis had two hits and two RBI and Shullich had two hits.
Owens is 4-7.
BGSU track wins two events
CINCINNATI - Natalie Sommerville won the 400 hurdles and Tiera Parker won the triple jump as the Bowling Green State University track and field team placed third out of 11 teams at the season-opening UC Early Bird Relays.
In the unique scoring event, each team's top two marks were combined for a relay total. BG scored 79 points. Cincinnati won the meet with 145 points.
Sommerville was timed in 1:03.50 in the 400 hurdles. That time was .08 seconds ahead of her time at the MAC championships last year. She also finished eighth in the 100 hurdles.
Parker, a freshman, went 11.26 meters in the triple jump. It was the first time in her career she had ever competed in the triple jump. Parker also placed third in the long jump (5.31 meters) and ran the 100, placing 10th in 12.62.
Also for BG, Demetra Taylor was second in the 100 hurdles (14.57); Felicia Jefferson was third in the 400 (59.13); and Allison Weimer was third in the 100 (12.23) and 200 (24.84).
