Brandon takes job at New Mexico State LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Gregg Brandon, a former head football coach at Bowling Green State University, has been hired as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at New Mexico State. Brandon spent the last two seasons with the same duties at Wyoming. Brandon was the head coach at BG from 2003-08. During that six-year span, he led the Falcons to three bowl appearances and four winning seasons, including an 11-3 season in 2003, a 9-3 mark in 2004 and an 8-5 campaign in 2007. He was 44-30 overall at BG, including 2-1 in bowl games. BG gymnasts earn victory ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team beat Lindenwood, 192.850-192.050 Saturday. Jamilah Ali (vault), Amanda Lievendag (uneven bars) and Alyssa Nocella (floor exercise) each claimed individual titles in the Falcons' win. Ali scored a meet-high 9.825. Livendag scored 9.775. Nocella scored 9.85. BG tennis wins seventh straight PERRYSBURG - The Bowling Green State University tennis team increased its winning streak to seven matches with a 4-3 victory over Cincinnati. The non-conference dual match was held at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The Falcons are 7-1. Gates, Pleger lead BG track ALLENDALE, Mich. - Bowling Green State University's Dana Gates set personal bests in two events and Brooke Pleger set another personal record in the weight throw Saturday on the second day of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. Gates set personal bests in the long jump and the triple jump, finishing in the top 10 in both events at one of the largest indoor track and field meets in the country. Gates placed fifth of 36 competitors in the long jump with a distance of 17-feet-7 1/2 and was 10th of 25 in the triple jump with a leap of 35-8. Pleger pushed her personal best in the weight throw to 62-1 1/4 three inches farther than her pervious best toss at the Harvey-Simmons Invitational. She was fourth out of 62 competitors at the GVSU Big Meet. Owens men post win over Sinclair DAYTON - James Kelly led the Owens Community College men's basketball team to a 98-73 win over Sinclair CC Saturday. Kelly surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in his 30-point effort in which he was 14-of-23 from the field. He also had 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. The Express are 18-7 overall and 7-1 in the OCCAC. Owens women beat Sinclair DAYTON - Owens Community College's women's team turned a seven-point halftime deficit into a 71-55 win over Sinclair CC Saturday. An 11-0 scoring run in the middle of the second half gave the Express a 54-44 lead and they held on the rest of the way. Mackenzie Heacock scored 15 points to lead Owens (19-7 overall, 6-2 OCCAC). |
