Monroe, McDaniel to stay with BGSU football staff
Nick Monroe and Larry McDaniel have been retained on the Bowling Green State University football staff by
new head coach Dino Babers, according to an athletics communications spokesman.
Monroe has been BG’s secondary coach for the last five seasons helping develop all-conference performers
Jerry ‘BooBoo’ Gates and Cameron Truss.
A graduate of St. Cloud State University, Monroe coached as Allegheny College and Colgate University
before coming to Bowling Green.
McDaniel has coached BG’s defensive line for the last four years. In that time, he helped develop
All-American Chris Jones, now with the New England Patriots, and All-Mid-American Conference performer
Ted Ouellet.
A graduate of Indiana University, McDaniel has been an assistant coach for 15 years at MAC, including
Kent State and Ball State.
White named to Ohio track hall of fame
COLUMBUS – Former Eastwood High School boys track coach Gary White will be inducted into the Ohio
Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame Jan. 24.
The Eagles won state championships in 2009 and 2010 and won 14 league championships during White’s
23-year tenure.
Eastwood also won five district and two regional championships, and were undefeated in dual meets during
his last seven seasons.
He retired from coaching after the 2011 season.
Northview to honor Sigler
SYLVANIA – Fromer Northview High School girls basketball coach Jerry Sigler will have the school’s gym
floor named in his honor tonight in between games of the girls and boys doubleheader against Napoleon.

Sigler, a graduate of Eastwood High School, had a 675-177 record, ranking him third all-time in Ohio.
The Wildcats won 18 league titles and seven district championships, and advanced to state three times
during Sigler’s 38 seasons.
Bechstein hired at Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Bowling Green High School graduate Spencer Bechstein has been named an assistant
equipment manager at the University of Michigan.
Bechstein will be Michigan’s equipment manager for women’s lacrosse and help with men’s lacrosse.
He is a graduate of BGSU, earning a degree in sport management and serving as a student equipment manager
for the Falcon hockey team.
