EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Karahn Scott had game-highs of 28 points and 11 rebounds Thursday to lead ninth-ranked Owens Community College's women's basketball team to a 70-58 win over Erie CC in the NJCAA Division II national tournament.
The sophomore forward was 10-of-24 from the field. Her points were a career high.
The Express trailed 17-15 with just 10 minutes left in the first half before pulling ahead with a 13-0 run.
Scott ended the first half by scoring two baskets to give Owens a 34-25 lead at the break. She finished the half with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Express led by as many as 21 points in the second half.
Mackenzie Heacock added 13 points and seven rebounds for Owens.
Also for the Express, Jordyn Bond had five points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks; and Nandi Taylor had seven points and five assists.
The Express were 25-of-71 from the field, including 5-of-12 3 pointers. Owens was 15-of-30 from the line.
Erie made 22-of-57 field goals, 2-of-13 3-pointers and 12-of-24 free throws.
Owens survived 28 turnovers, thanks to Erie's 26 turnovers. The teams combined for 54 fouls.
The Express, 26-8 overall, face St. Louis CC today at noon in the consolation semifinals.
