As the Ohio high school bowling season concluded last weekend, it’s time for a couple of observations.

Overall, local teams performed well with the Bowling Green Bobcat girls finishing seventh in the state
and a few individuals bowling respectably at the state including Hannah Cook from Eastwood, Jacob
Spangenberg from Bowling Green and Mason Robinson from Rossford.
Both the Eastwood girls and the Rossford boys teams narrowly missed advancing to the state, while the
Perrysburg boys finished second in the sectional tournament.
Both the Bobcat teams can take some modicum of pride in that the boys were second in the district to
Wapakoneta, which went on to win the state title. While the girls advanced to the championship round at
the state tournament and lost a close match 3-2 to the state champion from Beavercreek.
The Eastwood girls won the state title a few years ago, so high school bowling is blessed to have some
talented bowlers in the area.
Other area teams include Lakota, Fostoria and Anthony Wayne.
Another observation involves the volume of Wood County schools which do not field a bowling team.
Over the last few years, there have been many talented bowlers denied the opportunity to compete for
their school.
While you can’t pack as spectators into a bowling center as you can at a football stadium or basketball
gymnasium, bowling still provides a lot of excitement for the fans who do turn out.
If your school does not offer bowling, perhaps its time to organize a campaign to begin a team.
Bowling is the fastest growing high school sport in Ohio, more teams are needed to build upon that
growth.
Youth of the Week: Youth bowlers who bowled the most pins over their average in any one game last week,
with pins over, were: Bantam/Prep, Kelly Miller, 70; Sofia Calderon, 58; Mark Kolcynski, 67; Nico
Calderon, 58.
Youth tourney: Seneca Lanes in Fostoria will host the Ohio State United States Bowling Congress Youth
Northwest Regional Team Tournament on March 29-30.
Squad times are 3 p.m. on the first day and 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the second day.
This is a four-person team event with an entry fee of $20 per bowler.
Entry blanks are available from most area bowling centers.

Sams, Ladies Major, 31; Teresa Frick, Elks, 30.
