College Scene: Xavier Brown named tourney MVP (01-02-14)

Xavier Brown, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the College of Wooster men’s basketball
team.
Brown was the MVP of the "Mose" Hole/Kiwanis Classic. He scored 19 points and had five rebounds
in a 65-53 win over Hanover College, and 19 points and 10 rebounds in an 88-53 win over Thiel College.

Through 11 games this season, Brown is averaging 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.
Hanna Brian, from North Baltimore High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Bluffton
University and play softball.
Jordan Breitigam, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Ohio Northern men’s swimming and a
diving team.
At the Wooster Invitational, Breitigam set a meet record and topped the NCAA ‘B’ cut time in winning to
100 butterfly in 49.47, and met the ‘B’ cut list in the 200 butterfly, finishing second in 1:53.61.
He was also second in the 200 individual medley (1:55.44), and swan on the fifth-place 400 medley relay
team, and was a member of the second-place 200 medley relay team.
Kaysie Brittenham, from Lake High School, is a sophomore on the Cedarville University women’s basketball
team.
Through nine games, she is averaging 5.2 points per game, and has 20 rebounds, 11 assists, nine steals,
and two blocked shots.
Andrea Brown, from Northwood High School, was a redshirt senior on the Lourdes University volleyball
team.
Brown was named a 2013 Scholar Athlete for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Brown
is a social work major with a 3.54 GPA.
Vitto Brown, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the University of Wisconsin men’s
basketball team.
He has played a total of 19 minutes in five games and has two points and seven rebounds.
Wisconsin is 13-0.
Bailey Burk, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Case Western Reserve University
women’s swimming and diving team.
Jacob Burk, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Baldwin Wallace College men’s swimming
team.
At the Fredonia State Invitational, he was fifth in the 1,650 freestyle in a career-best 16:53.83; sixth
in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.30, after swimming a career-best 4:54.40 in the preliminaries; and he was
eighth in the 400 individual medley in 4:31.18, after swimming a career-best 4:25.85 in the
preliminaries.
Michael Cavanaugh, from Otsego High School, is a senior on the Miami (Ohio) University men’s swimming
team.
In the Miami Invitational, Cavanaugh was sixth in the 200 butterfly (1:51.12), and swan on the
fifth-place 200 freestyle relay team.
Ashley Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, was a senior on the BGSU volleyball team.
She had 528 digs this season, and is second on BG’s career list with 2,061 digs.
She also had 23 aces and 87 assists this season.
Jordan Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, was a senior on the Northwood (Mich.) University volleyball
team. Northwood finished 21-11.
Dunn has 1,296 assists this season, along with 71 kills, 33 aces, 346 digs, and 35 blocks.
Rachael Dzierzak, a Perrysburg resident, is a sophomore on the Ohio State University swimming team.
At the Ohio State Invitational, Dzierzak was a member of the sixth-place 200 medley relay team, and the
10th-place 400 medley relay team.
Shane Edwards, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Wittenberg University men’s basketball
team.
He has played in 11 games for the 10-1 Tigers, and is averaging 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Rachel Flores, from North Baltimore High School, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at Lourdes
University.
She has played in six of Lourdes’ 14 games this season.
Austin Gardner, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman on the men’s basketball team at the University of
Findlay.
Through Findlay’s first eight games, Gardner is averaging 4.5 points and 3.1 assists per game. The Oilers
are 7-1.
Jessica Grindle, from Northwood High School, was a sophomore on the Owens Community College women’s
soccer team this fall.
She was named a secomd-team All-American by The National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Grindle
led Owens in scoring with 23 goals and five assists. She finished her two-year career with 29 goals and
eight assists.
Brittany Gross, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the women’s basketball team at Capital
University.
She has played in two of Capital’s first 10 games of the season.
Charlie Hughes, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the University of Chicago men’s basketball
team.
Through the first 10 games of the season, Hughes is the leading scorer for the Maroons, averaging 12.6
points per game. He also has 29 rebounds, 15 assists, six steals, and three blocks.
In an 89-66 win over North Park University, Hughes led the team with 16 points.
