College Scene: Seiler is Akron's No. 1 pitcher (05-02-13) PDF Print E-mail

Erin Seiler, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman on the University of Akron softball team. She attended Toledo Central Catholic.
Seiler has been Akron's No. 1 starter this season and is 15-17 with one save and a 2.69 ERA. She has played in 39 games, making 33 starts, and she has pitched 21 complete games.
In 226 innings, Seiler has allowed 224 hits with 192 strike outs and 31 walks.
Caroline Powers, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Michigan State University women's golf team.
She was second in the Big Ten championship with a 3-over par 219, including a 1-under 71 in the final round. The 71, which included four birdies, was the second-lowest of her career at the Big Ten championships and helped her move from seventh to second in the final standings.
MSU, ranked No. 25 in the nation, was third, five shots back.
Powers' second-place showing is her best career finish at the Big Ten championships. She took fourth as a sophomore in 2011 and tied for third as a junior in 2012.
For the season, Powers owns a 73.64 scoring average and has placed in the top 10 in six of MSU's nine tournaments. She is ranked No. 23 in the nation by Golfweek.
Michigan State is headed to the NCAA regionals for a 15th consecutive year. The Spartans earned a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin Oklahoma University Golf Course on May 9-11 in Norman, Okla.
Travis Podolak, from Otsego High School, is a sophomore on the Siena Heights University baseball team.
He has played in 16 games with six starts and is hitting .241 in 29 at-bats.
Katie Reiser, from Elmwood High School, is a junior sprinter on Kent State University women's track and field team.
Reiser ran a leg on the 400 relay team which was eighth in 46.53 at the Penn Relays last week. She also ran a 12.18 in a preliminary round of the 100 at the Penn Relays, which was her best time of the spring.
She was sixth at the Virginia Invitational in the 100, finishing in 12.21.
Kori Reiser, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman thrower on the Bowling Green State University women's track team.
Emily Reynolds, from Elmwood High School, is a junior on the University of Findlay softball team.
Reynolds has started all 38 games for Findlay and is hitting .342 with 11 doubles and she is second on the team with seven home runs. Reynolds leads the Oilers with 34 RBI and has scored 28 runs.
Lindsey Rich, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore pitcher on the Eastern Michigan University softball team.
Rich has pitched in 32 games for the Eagles this spring, making 12 starts. She is 5-5 with one save and a 5.08 ERA. In 84 innings she has allowed 121 hits while striking out 45 and walking 38.
Nick Rodesky, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Tiffin University baseball team.
He has made nine starts for Tiffin and is 4-2 with a 2.75 ERA. In 52 1/3 innings, Rodesky has allowed 39 hits with 49 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Reid Rothenbuhler, from Elmwood High School, is a junior on the University of Findlay baseball team.
Rothenbuhler has played in all 40 games for the Oilers and is second on the team in hitting (.352) and RBI (31). Of his 50 hits, 15 have been doubles and he also had one home run.
Clayton Ruch, from Eastwood High School, is a junior pitcher on the Wayne State baseball team.
Ruch has made 17 appearances and is 2-0 with nine saves and a 1.80 earned-run average. In 20 innings, he has struck out 13 and walked 11.
Ruch had a hit and drove in a run in his only at-bat this season.
Nathan Scanlan, from Lake High School, was a freshman on the Lourdes University baseball team.
He appeared in 13 games, making four starts. Scanlan was 1-2 with a 5.86 ERA. In 27 innings he struck out 21 and walked 20.
Alec Schmenk, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the University of Toledo baseball team.
He has made 11 appearances, with three starts, for the Rockets. He is 2-0 with a 6.56 ERA. In 23 1/3 innings, Schmenk has struck out 11 and walked 15.
Blake Schmenk, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the University of Findlay baseball team.
Schmenk leads the Oilers with a .378 batting average, playing in all 40 games. He has nine doubles, two triple and two home runs with 20 RBI. Schmenk also leads the team with 19 stolen bases.
Cody Seifert, from Eastwood High School, is a junior sprinter on the Kent State University men's  track and field team.
At the Jesse Owens Classic, Seifert ran a leg on KSU's second-place 400 relay team (41.54).
At the All-Ohio championships, KSU won the 400 relay in 41.67 and Seifert was also fifth in the 100 in 11.06, his best time this spring.
Jeffrey Senecal, from North Baltimore High School, is a senior on the Detroit Mercy men's track and field team.
At the EMU Twilight Invitational, Senecal won the triple jump with a wind-aided effort of 41-8 3/4.
He was also ninth at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge in the triple jump, going 41-6 1/2.
Hannah Shank, a North Baltimore resident, is a freshman on the Owens Community College softball team. She attended Van Buren High School.
Shank has played in 22 games, making 21 starts and is hitting .347 with 10 RBI.
Alyssa Shimel, from Eastwood High School, is a junior on the University of Michigan women's golf team.
At the Big Ten championships, Shimel tied for 26th with a 230 total as UM finished 10th as a team.
At the SDSU Farms Invitational, Shimel shot a 256 and tied for 71st.
Joe Sickler, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior infielder on the baseball team at the University of Findlay.
Sickler is hitting .254 with seven doubles, one triple and one home run, playing in 39 of 40 games. He is second on the team with five stolen bases.
Hunter Smith, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Michigan State baseball team.
He has appeared in three games for the Spartans.
Kyle Smithey, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Findlay men's track and field team.
At the Hillsdale Invitational, Smithey was third in the 400 hurdles (56.25), sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.92 wind aided)
At the Miami Invitational, he ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay team (3:13.71).
Emily Stewart, from North Baltimore High School, is a sophomore on the University of Findlay softball team.
Stewart has played in 23 games this season and is hitting .214 with three doubles and seven RBI.
Kyle Schlumbohm, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman pole vaulter at Kent State University.
He finished 13th at the Ashland Alumni Open, clearing 14-4 3/4.
Adam Tyson, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore on the baseball team at the University of Toledo.
In 13 appearances this spring, Tyson is 2-2 with one save and a 3.71 ERA. In 26 2/3 innings, Tyson has struck out 23 and walked 13.
Justin Welch, from Eastwood High School, is a junior thrower on the University of Findlay track and field team.
Hillary West, from Lake High School, is a redshirt freshman on the Lourdes University softball team.
She made 29 starts for Lourdes and hit .286 with four doubles, a home run and 11 RBI.
Lourdes finished 11-21.
Alex Williams, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the University of Findlay baseball team.
He has appeared in 16 games and is 4-3 with a team-high three saves.
Tyniesha Wilson, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Owens Community College softball team.
Wilson has played in 21 games with 10 starts. She is hitting .375 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI.
Jared Wolff, from Eastwood High School, is a senior on the Tiffin University men's track and field team.
Competing in the javelin, Wolff was third at the Cedarville Collegiate All-Comers (170-7) and fourth at the University of Cumberlands Invitational (174-1).
Eric Wymer, a resident of North Baltimore, is a freshman on the Ohio Northern men's track team. He attended Van Buren High School.
Running in the 1,500, Wymer was 11th (4:09.12) at the Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor championships and 13th in the All-Ohio Division III championships (4:07.97).
Stephen Yant, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the Defiance College baseball team.
He has appeared in four games this spring.
