College Scene: Newman named player of the week (01-04-14)

Kelsea Newman, from Perrysburg High School, is a redshirt freshman on the Youngstown State women’s
basketball team.
She was named the Horizon League women’s basketball freshman of the week for the period ending Dec. 29,

Newman came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points in YSU’s game at Akron on Dec. 29.
Newman was 6-for-10 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. She added three
offensive rebounds, an assist and a steal in 20 minutes.
On the season, Newman is averaging 3.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game while playing in all 12 of YSU’s
games.
Jon Juergens, from Eastwood High School, is a senior on the Otterbein College men’s basketball team.
Juergens has started the 11 games of the season for Otterbein, and is averaging 4.1 points and 3.0
rebounds per game.
Zack Leahy, from Rossford High School, is a senior on the Wittenberg University men’s basketball team.

He has started Wittenberg’s 11 four games and is averaging a team-high 28.2 minutes per game.
He is averaging 11.5 points, a team-high 4.6 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Jay Marquette, a Rossford resident, is a junior on the Lee University men’s basketball team.
Marquette has started seven of Lee’s first eight games, and is averaging 4.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per
game.
Clay Rolf, from Eastwood High School, was a redshirt junior on the Bowling Green State University
football team. The Falcons won the Mid-American Conference championship and finished 10-4.
Steve Slocum, from Perrysburg High School, was a freshman on the Miami RedHawks football team. Jamie
Sobczak, a Perrysburg resident, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at Ashland University. She
played last season at Wheeling (W.Va.) Jesuit University.
She has played in all eight games this season for Ashland, averaging nine minutes per game.
Jenna Stoner, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at DePauw
University.
She has played in six of DePauw’s first 10 games of the season.
DePauw, 10-0, is ranked No. 1 in the nation in Division III.
Jonathan Stoner, from Bowling Green High School, was a senior on the Wittenberg football team.
He finished second on the team with 41 receptions for 461 yards and five touchdowns.
The Tigers finished 10-2.
