College Scene: George hitting .506 for Owens softball (04-29-14)

Brittany George, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the Owens Community College softball team.

George leads the Express, batting .506. She has 11 doubles, three triples, and five home runs with 29
RBI. She leads the team with 31 runs scored and is second with nine stolen bases.
Earlier this month, George was the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference softball player of the
week. She went 7-for-14 (.500) over six games, scoring five runs, with one double, one triple and two
home runs. She added five RBI, three walks and one stolen base.
Casey Akenberger, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Jacksonville State softball team.

She is 4-2 with a 6.22 earned-run average, making nine appearances with seven starts.
Akenberger has allowed 32 hits and 12 walks with 13 strikeouts in 27 innings.
Morgan Arnold, from Elmwood High School, is a junior on the University of Findlay softball team.
She has played in 37 of Findlay’s 39 games and is hitting .144 with two doubles, a home run, and 11 RBI.

Samantha Auchmuty, from Elmwood High School, is a junior thrower on the Heidelberg University women’s
track and field team.
In the Ohio Athletic Conference meet, she was 18th in the shot put (31-101‚Ñ4), 16th in the discus
(100-1), 13th in the hammer throw (124-1), and eighth in the javelin (97-11).
Kylee Bernthisel, from Otsego High School, is a sophomore on the Ashland University women’s track and
field team.
In the Ashland Alumni Open, Bernthisel won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:30.97).
Reagan Briggs, from Elmwood High School, is a redshirt freshman for the Eastern Michigan University
women’s track and field team.
At the Spartan Invitational, Briggs was second in the hammer throw (145-7).
Vitto Brown, from Bowling Green High School, was a freshman on the University of Wisconsin men’s
basketball team.
Brown played in 14 games, including an appearance in the Badgers’ Final Four game against Kentucky.
He scored six points and had 12 rebounds for the season.
Bryant Byrd, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Western Colorado University men’s track
and field team.
Ryan Clay, from Rossford High School, is a freshman on the men’s track team at Purdue University.
He was 13th in the 800 (2:01.42) in the Border Wars meet.
Katie Cochrane, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Ohio Northern women’s track and
field team.
Kristen Curtis, a senior at Elmwood High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play
basketball at Ursuline College next year
Zach Coffield, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman in the Tiffin University baseball team.
He has played in 15 games, making 12 starts for the Dragons. Coffield is hitting .217 with three doubles
and nine RBI.
Katie Dewyre, from Eastwood High School, is a senior on the Adrian College softball team.
Adrian finished its season 17-15 overall and 7-9 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Dewyre made 29 starts, hitting .430 with four doubles, a triple and 17 RBI. She led the team with 21 runs
scored.
Lauren Diehl, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the women’s golf team at Bowling Green State
University.
In the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, she finished in a tie for 65th with a 171 total.
Nolan Dill, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman walk-on to the Michigan State baseball team.

Katie Dunphy, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the softball team at the University of
Findlay.
She has played in 12 games and is hitting .263 with a home run and five RBI.
Kyle Durham, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Tiffin University baseball team.
Durham has played in 32 games, making 28 starts. He is hitting .203 with four doubles and eight RBI.
Kayla Encalado, from Lake High School, is a freshman on the Lourdes University softball team.
She has started all 38 games for Lourdes this spring and is hitting .191 with three doubles, two triples,
and 13 RBI.
Sarah Fowler, from Otsego High School, is a sophomore defender on the women’s lacrosse team at Trine
University.
Cameron Gardner, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the University of Cincinnati women’s track
and field team.
She was seventh in the 100 at the Kentucky Relays (12.07).
Emily Gawronski, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the Lourdes University softball team.
She has played in 10 games, making one start. In 12 at-bats, she has a double and two RBI.
Kim Granata, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the University of North Dakota softball team.

She has played in 38 games, making 26 starts this spring. Granata is hitting .255, with eight doubles and
three home runs. She is tied for the team lead with 18 RBI.
Cortney Haubert, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman of the Ashland University track and field team.

In the Ashland Alumni Open, she was 14th in the 1,500 (5:09.60).
Kris Hayward, from Eastwood High School, is a sophomore outfielder on the University of Findlay baseball
team.
He has played in 18 games and has four hits, including two doubles.
Austin Hoiles, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Findlay baseball team.
Amanda Hotaling, from North Baltimore High School, is a sophomore on the University of Cincinnati women’s
track and field team.
She was 12th in the pole vault (11- 3‚Ñ4 ) in the All-Ohio championship, ninth (13-31‚Ñ2 ) at the
Kentucky
Relays, and third (12- 3‚Ñ4 ) at the RedHawk Invitational
Jacob Ireland, from Bowling Green High School is a sophomore pitcher at the University of Findlay.
He has appeared in six games and in 81‚Ñ3 innings he has a 3.24 earned run average.
Tiger Jaso, from Lakota High School, is a freshman on the Owens Community College baseball team.
He has played in 31 games, hitting .312 with three doubles, a triple, and nine RBI. He has scored 20
runs.
Garrett Jex, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Lourdes University baseball team.
He has appeared in seven games, with six starts with four hits and two RBI.
Hunter Johnson, from Lake High School is a sophomore on Trine University’s lacrosse team.
Ryan Kohlhofer, from Lake High School, is a sophomore on the Defiance College baseball team.
He has started all 35 games this spring and is hitting .281 with eight doubles, three triples and 18 RBI
and 18 runs scored.
Zach Kolvey, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the Adrian College baseball team.
He has played in 24 games, with 20 starts. Kolvey is hitting .250 with two doubles, one triple, one home
run, and seven RBI.
Alyssa Kopp, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore thrower on the track team at Auburn
University.
Matt Kruzel, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the Ashland University baseball team.
Lindsey Lehman, from Otsego High School, is a junior on the Lourdes University women’s golf team.
She has played 13 rounds and is fourth on the team with a 93.85 stroke average.
Elizabeth Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a senior distance runner on the University of Toledo track
and field team.
In the Cherry Blossom Invitational, she was sixth in the 5,000 (18:24.80).
Trey Marsh, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore on the Tiffin University baseball team.
He has appeared in four games this season.
Mason Mayberry, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore pitcher/infielder on the University of
Findlay baseball team.
He has made seven starts in nine appearances and is 1-4 with an 8.20 earned run average. Mayberry had 20
strikeouts and 23 walks.
Nick Munger, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Holy Cross (Ind.) baseball team.
He has in 11 games, making six starts and is 2-5 with a 4.40 earned run average. In 43 innings, he has
struck out 21 and walked 23.
Peter Munger, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Ohio Wesleyan baseball team.
He has made nine appearances with eight starts this spring and is 2-6 with a 5.28 earned run average. In
46 innings, he was had 24 batters and struck out 24 batters.
