College Scene: Breitigam wins third straight OAC title

Jordan Breitigam, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Ohio Northern men’s swimming and a
diving team.
He broke the school record in the 100 butterfly (49.28) as the Polar Bears won the Ohio Athletic
Conference championship.
It was Breitigam’s third straight victory in the 100 butterfly at the OAC championships, and his time
surpassed the NCAA ‘B” cut.
He also won the 200 butterfly (1:49.56), also surpassing the NCAA ‘B’ cut, and was on the winning 200
medley relay team.
Breitigam was second n the 200 individual medley (1:53.30), surpassing the NCAA ‘B’ cut.
It was Ohio Northern’s 10th straight OAC title.
Andrea Alt, from Perrysburg High School, is a redshirt sophomore on the Bowling Green women’s track and
field team.
She was 19th in the 3,000 (10:04.17) at the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
Aaron Arnold, a senior at Elmwood High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ohio
Dominican University and play football.
Samantha Auchmuty, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore thrower on the Heidelberg University women’s
track and field team.
At the Ohio Athletic Conference meet, Auchmuty was 15th in the shot put (34-3) and 17th in the weight
throw (39-13‚Ñ4).
In the Capital Classic, she was 11th in the shot put (32-7), and 12th in the weight throw (37-103‚Ñ4).

At the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-February meet, she was 18th in the weight throw (35-81‚Ñ2).
At the Findlay Open, she was 21st in the weight throw (35-51‚Ñ4).
Kylee Bernthisel, from Otsego High School, is a sophomore on the Ashland University women’s track and
field team.
At the Kent State Tune-Up, Bernthisel was seventh in the 3,000 (10:35.43).
At the Akron Invitational, she was fifth in the 5,000 (18:19,08).
Reagan Briggs, from Elmwood High School, is a redshirt freshman for the Eastern Michigan University
women’s track and field team.
Kaysie Brittenham, from Lake High School, is a sophomore on the Cedarville University women’s basketball
team.
She has made nine starts in Cedarville’s first 23 games, and is averaging 7.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per
game. She is second on the team with 36 3-pointers.
Vitto Brown, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the University of Wisconsin men’s
basketball team.
He has played a total of 27 minutes in eight of Wisconsin’s first 27 games and has four points and 10
rebounds.
Xavier Brown, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the College of Wooster men’s basketball
team.
Brown scored 17 points in Wooster’s 89-57 win over Allegheny which clinched the outright North Coast
Athletic Conference title for the Fighting Scots.
He has started all 23 games for Wooster, and is averaging 15.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per
game.
Bailey Burk, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Case Western Reserve University
women’s swimming and diving team.
In a meet against Baldwin Wallace, she was fourth in the 50 breast stroke (35.99), and fourth in the 500
freestyle (5:49.83).
Jacob Burk, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Baldwin Wallace College men’s swimming
team.
At the Ohio Athletic Conference championships, Burk won the 1,650 freestyle (16:25.81), setting a school
record. He also set the school record in the 1,000 freestyle with his split time of 9:55.51 during the
1,650.
He was also sixth in the 500 freestyle in a season-best time of 4:50.46, and third in the 400 individual
medley in a season-best time of 4:19.35.
At the Kenyon College Last-Chance meet, Burk was seventh in the 500 freestyle (4:57.11).
He was the OAC player of the week earlier this month as he won three events individually and swam on a
winning relay team as the Yellow Jackets split a pair of dual meets. At Defiance, Burk won the 1,000
freestyle (10:37.51) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.30), a season and career-best time, and he was on the
winning 200 medley relay team. At Case he won the 1,650 freestyle (16:53.83). It was his second OAC
weekly honor.
Bryant Byrd, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Western Colorado University men’s track
and field team.
Mason Cajka, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Ohio State-Lima men’s basketball team.
Michael Cavanaugh, from Otsego High School, is a senior on the Miami (Ohio) University men’s swimming
team.
In a dual meet with Ball State, he won the 200 freestyle (1:44.33).
In a dual meet with Eastern Michigan, he won the 200 butterfly (1:51.27).
Justin Christoff, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Otterbein University football
team.
A starter at left offensive tackle, Christoff earned his first letter this season and was also recognized
for his academics.
Ryan Clay, from Rossford High School, is a freshman on the track team at Purdue University.
Courtney Clody, a senior at Perrysburg High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ohio
State and run cross country.
Katie Cochrane, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Ohio Northern women’s track and
field team.
Cody Downs, a senior at Otsego High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play football at
the University of Findlay.
Rachael Dzierzak, a Perrysburg resident, is a sophomore on the Ohio State University swimming team.
At the Big Ten championships, Dzierzak swam on the fifth-place 200 freestyle relay team. She was also
12th in the 100 breast stroke (1:02.02).
Shane Edwards, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the Wittenberg University men’s basketball
team.
He has played in 24 of Wittenberg’s first 25 games, and is averaging 14.9 minutes, 5.1 points, and 3.3
rebounds a game.
He made the Dean’s List with a 3.55 grade-point average and will be inducted into the National Honor
Society this spring.
Rachel Flores, from North Baltimore High School, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at Lourdes
University.
She played a total of 50 minutes in 14 of Lourdes’ 29 games this season.
Austin Gardner, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman on the men’s basketball team at the University of
Findlay.
He has played in all 25 games for Findlay, averaging 13.5 minutes per game. He is averaging 2.4 points
and 1.6 assists per game
Cameron Gardner, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the University of Cincinnati women’s track
and field team.
Brittany Gross, from Elmwood High School, is on the women’s basketball team at Capital University.
She played in nine games for a total of 32 minutes for Capital, making one start.
Sawyer Haines, a senior at Elmwood High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ohio
Dominican University and play football.
Cortney Haubert, a Bowling Green resident, is a freshman of the Ashland University track and field team.

Amanda Hotaling, from North Baltimore High School, is a sophomore on the University of Cincinnati women’s
track and field team.
In the Indiana Relays, she tied for ninth in he pole vault invitational (12-31‚Ñ2),
She was also ninth in pole vault invitational at the Armory Collegiate Invitational (12-31‚Ñ2 ).
She was 12th in the pole vault at the Hoosier Hills Invitational (11-10).
Charlie Hughes, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the University of Chicago men’s basketball
team.
He has been injured after playing in 14 games, with 13 starts. He is averaging 11.6 points and 3.2
rebounds per game.
Jon Juergens, from Eastwood High School, is a senior on the Otterbein College men’s basketball team.
He has started 22 of 26 games for Otterbein. He is averaging 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, and
leads the team with 12 blocked shots.
Alyssa Kopp, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore thrower on the track team at Auburn
University. She competed last season at Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Zack Leahy, from Rossford High School, is a senior on the Wittenberg University men’s basketball team.

He has started 24 of Wittenberg’s first 25 games and is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 ppg. He
leads the team with 81 assists, and is second with 20 steals and 37 3-pointers.
Elizabeth Lemon, a Bowling Green resident, is a senior distance runner on the University of Toledo
women’s track and field team.
Jay Marquette, a Rossford resident, is a junior on the Lee University men’s basketball team.
He has played in 23 of Lee’s 24 games this season, making 11 starts. Marquette is averaging 10.6 minutes
and 2.3 points per game.
Taylor Monheim, a senior at Perrysburg High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend
Grand Valley State and run cross country,
Kelsea Newman, from Perrysburg High School, is a redshirt freshman on the Youngstown State women’s
basketball team.
Newman has played in 24 of Youngstown’s 25 games, and is averaging 13.8 minutes and 4.2 points per game.

Nate Patterson, a senior at Perrysburg High School, has signed a national letter of intent to attend
Miami of Ohio and play football.
Sarah Quimby, from Perrysburg High School, will attend Bowling Green State University and play soccer
this fall. She is a preferred walk-on for the Falcons.
Katie Reiser, from Elmwood High School, is a senior sprinter on Kent State University women’s track and
field team.
She won the 60 (7.74) at the Findlay Open.
At the Fred Wilt Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue, she was fourth in the 60 (7.70).
At the Kent State Tune-Up, Reiser was third in the 60 (7.781).
Kori Reiser, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore thrower on the Bowling Green State University
women’s track team.
She was fourth in the weight throw (51-113‚Ñ4) at the Findlay Open.
At the Akron Invitational, Reiser was 12th in the Blue Division in the weight throw (48-51‚Ñ4).
In the sub-elite division at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, Reiser was ninth in the weight throw
(48-43‚Ñ4).
Jeffrey Schorsch, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the tennis team at Valparaiso University.
Valparaiso had eight dual matches in February, going 5-3.
So far this season, Schorsch is 17-5 in singles play, including 8-1 in dual meets at No. 1 singles, and
9-4 in tournament play.
Overall in doubles play, he is 9-7, including a 5-2 mark at No. 2 doubles, and a 4-5 record in
tournaments.
Kyle Schlumbohm, from Eastwood High School, is a redshirt freshman pole vaulter at Kent State University.

He won the pole vault at the Findlay Open (15-1) and in the Blue Division of the Akron Invitational
(15-31‚Ñ2).
At the Fred Wilt Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue, he was third (4.81 meters)
He was second (15-7) at the Kent State Tune-Up.
Cody Seifert, from Eastwood High School, is a redshirt junior on the Kent State University men’s track
and field team.
At the Akron Invitational, Seifert was fourth in the Gold Division 60 (6.96)
Kyle Smithey, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore on the University of Findlay men’s track and field
team.
In the Findlay Open. Smithey was sixth in the 200 (23.74), and seventh in the 60 hurdles (8.77).
At the Valentine Invitational at Boston University, he was 32nd in the 60 hurdles. He also ran on the
Oilers’ 1,600 team which was ninth in 3:18.43, which was an NCAA provisional time.
Smithey was fifth in the 60 hurdles (8.75) at the Hillsdale College Tune-Up.
Jamie Sobczak, a Perrysburg resident, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at Ashland
University.
She has played in 23 of Ashland’s 25 games, making nine starts. Sobczak is averaging 3.4 points and 3.8
rebounds per game.
Jenna Stoner, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the women’s basketball team at DePauw
University.
She has played in 20 of DePauw’s 26 games, averaging 6.5 minutes per game.
Lorne Strausbaugh, from Elmwood High School, is a freshman on the Malone University men’s track and field
team.
April Weaver, from Perrysburg High School, is a sophomore on the women’s tennis team at Washington
College.
Weaver will open the spring season ranked 10th in the Atlantic South region in singles. The
Intercollegiate Tennis Association recently released its preseason rankings.
Weaver went 11-6 at No. 1 singles last spring for the Shorewomen, including an 8-2 mark in Centennial
Conference play, and was named the Centennial Conference rookie of the year.
She was also named to the All-Centennial Conference second team in singles and an All-Centennial
Conference honorable mention in doubles.
This fall, she advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
Justin Welch, from Eastwood High School, is a junior thrower on the University of Findlay track and field
team.
Welch competed in the USA Indoor Track and Field championships in Albuquerque, N.M. and was sixth in the
35-pound weight throw with a 71-51‚Ñ4 effort. The throw met the NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
At the Valentine Invitational at Boston University, Welch won the weight throw (69-23‚Ñ4).
In the Findlay Open, he was third in the elite division of the weight throw (72-21‚Ñ4).
Eric Wymer, a resident of North Baltimore, is a sophomore on the Ohio Northern men’s track and field
team.
At the Ohio Athletic Conference split meet, Wymer was sixth in the 3,000 (9:01.88).
At the Joe Banks Invitational at ONU, he was eighth in the 1,000 (2:38.75).
Wymer was ninth in the mile (4:31.24) at the All-Ohio championships at Otterbein University.
Emily Wyrick, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman on the University of Toledo women’s track and
field team.
At the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame, she was 31st in the 1,000 (2:59.57).
