College Scene: Breitigam named OAC men's swimmer of the year (02-27-13) PDF Print E-mail

Jordan Breitigam, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Ohio Northern University men's swimming and diving team.
At the Ohio Athletic Conference championships he was named the men's swimmer of the year. Breitigam won the 200 individual medley (1:51.63); 100 butterfly (49.24); 200 butterfly (1:49.93); and swam on the winning 400 and 200 medley relay teams and the 400 freestyle relay at the OAC meet..
In the two butterfly events, Breitigam surpassed the NCAA "A" cut, qualifying him automatically for the NCAA III Championships in Shenandoah, Tex., March 20-23.
Breitigam will enter his senior year as a 10-time OAC champion.
As a team, Ohio Northern won its ninth straight OAC title.

Casey Adamcik, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the Ohio Northern University women's indoor track and field team.
She was eighth in the 5,000 (18:48.99) at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Adamcik was 11th in the 3,000 (10:59.54) at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships.

Casey Akenberger, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Jacksonville State softball team.
She has made eight appearances so far this season and is 1-4 with a 4.11 earned-run average.

Jamie Akenberger, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the Florida Gulf Coast University women's swimming and diving team.

Brooke Albright, from Eastwood High School, is a senior on the Otterbein College softball team.
The Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio, Inc. (PIA) presented Albright with the Rising Star of the Year Award. The PIA Rising Star of the Year Award goes to an intern who has given an outstanding performance during their time within the program.
A business administration major with a minor in accounting, Albright is also a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-District selection
She has been a three-year starter for Otterbein.

Andrea Alt, from Perrysburg High School, is a redshirt freshman on the Bowling Green women's indoor track team
She was third in the 3,000 (10:13.80) at the Zips Invitational.

Mitchell Auchmuty, from Elmwood High School, is a senior thrower on the Capital University men's track and field team.
He was 10th in the Ohio Athletic Conference indoor championships in the shot put (45-2 1/2 ).
Auchmuty was eighth in the shot put at the Joe Banks Invitational (44-4 1/2 ) and 19th in the weight throw (41-8 3/4 ).
He was third in both the shot put (44-7) and the weight throw (43-5) at the Ohio Wesleyan Open.
At the Capital Classic, he was ninth in the weight throw (12.83 meters).

Samantha Auchmuty, from Elmwood High School, is a sophomore thrower on the Heidelberg University women's track and field team.
She was 15th in the Ohio Athletic Conference indoor championships in the shot put (34-3) and 17th in the weight throw (39-1 3/4 ).
At the Meindel Last Chance meet, she was eighth in the weight throw (12.06 meters) and 12th in the shot put (9.89 meters).

Kylee Bernthisel, from Otsego High School, is a freshman on the Ashland University women's indoor track and field team.
She ran a 10:42.54 in the 3,000 at the GLIAC championships.
In the Kent State Tuneup, Bernthisel was eighth in the 3,000 (10:48.52).
In the Akron Invitational, she was 14th in the 3,000 (10:51.10).

Justin Bockbrader, from Eastwood High School, is a goalie on the BGSU club hockey team.

Xavier Brown, from Bowling Green High School, is a junior on the College of Wooster men's basketball team.
Wooster is 23-5 after losing to Ohio Wesleyan in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament championship game.
Through the first 28 games, Brown is averaging 13.0 points and 2.4 assists per game.
He is one of two players on the team to make all 28 starts.
Wooster is hosting Penn State Behrend Saturday in a first-round game of the NCAA Division III national tournament.

Brett Bushong, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team.

Michael Cavanaugh, from Otsego High School, is a junior on the Miami (Ohio) University swimming team.
In a dual meet against Ball State, Cavanaugh won the 200 individual medley (1:54.25) and was second in the 100 butterfly (51.20).
In dual meet against Eastern Michigan, he was third in the 200 butterfly (1:54.80), fourth in the 100 butterfly (52.38), and fifth in the 100 freestyle (47.50).

Tim DeCant, from Lake High School, is a senior on the Lourdes University baseball team.
He played at Owens College in 2009 and 2010 and did not play in 2011 and 2012.
In six games this season, DeCant is hitting .278 with three doubles and a home run.

Rick Diechert, from Perrysburg, was a freshman on the Ohio Northern men's basketball team. He attended Maumee Valley Country Day.

Rachael Dzierzak, a Perrysburg resident, is a freshman on the Ohio State University swimming team. She attended Notre Dame Academy.
In the Big Ten championships, she was 16th in the 100 breast stroke (1:03.45).

Jason Faykosh, from Eastwood High School was a senior on the Ohio Northern men's basketball team, played in 27 games for the Ohio Northern men's basketball team, making one start. He had 18 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists this season.

Rachel Flores, from North Baltimore High School, was a freshman on the women's basketball team at Lourdes University.
Flores played in 26 games for Lourdes and finished with 32 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists.
Lourdes when 9-21 this season.

Cameron Gardner, from Perrysburg High School, is a junior on the University of Cincinnati women's track and field team.
She ran a 7.76 in the 60 meter dash as the Big East indoor championships.

Patrick Graham, from Bowling Green High School, is a senior on the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team.
Graham has started all 24 games for Christian Brothers, 16-8, this season and is second on the tea, averaging 9.5 points per game. He has made a team-high 58 3-pointers. Graham is also averaging 4.1 rebounds per game.

Kim Granata, from Perrysburg High School, is a freshman softball player at Kent State University.
She has played in three of KSU's first eight games this season, making one start.

Jimmy Grandowicz, from Rossford High School, is a forward on the BGSU club hockey team.

Brady Groom, from Rossford High School, is a freshman on the Muskingum University indoor track teams.

Ben Hammer, from Elmwood High School, is a senior outfielder on the University of Toledo baseball team.
Through the first five games of the season, Hammer is hitting .278 with a double. He also pitched one-third of an inning.

Abby Harris, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman on the Harvard University women's hockey team.
Through Harvard's first 28 games, Harris has scored a goal and added an assist and has a plus-four on-ice rating.
Harvard, is 21-5-3 overall and ranked seventh nationally.

Kris Hayward, from Eastwood High School, is a freshman on the University of Findlay baseball team.
He has appeared in two of Findlay's first four games this season.

Charlie Hughes, from Perrysburg High School, was a junior on the University of Chicago men's basketball team.
Hughes started 23 of 25 games for the Maroons and was second on the team, averaging 9.4 points per game. Hughes led the team with 129 rebounds (5.2 per game).
The University of Chicago finished its season with a 11-14 record.

Jacob Ireland, from Bowling Green High School is a freshman pitcher at the University of Findlay.

Garrett Jex, from Bowling Green High School, is a sophomore on the Lourdes University baseball team.
Last season Jex played in 50 games for Lourdes, making 46 starts. He hit .263 with nine doubles and 14 RBI and had a team-high 20 walks.

Andrew Johnson, from Otsego High School, is a senior on the Heidelberg University wrestling team.
Heidelberg won the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season title after posting a 21-11 win over Ohio Northern. Johnson won an 11-4 decision at 149 pounds in the ONU dual meet.
He is 30-13 this season with 14 pins, through Feb. 13.

Hunter Johnson, from Lake High School is a freshman in sprints on Trine University's indoor track and field team.

Jon Juergens, from Eastwood High School, was a junior on the Otterbein College men's basketball team.
He played in 27 games this season, making three starts. Juergens averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Otterbein finished 8-19 this season.

Alyssa Kopp, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman thrower on the track team at Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.
Kopp threw 38-2 in the shot put and 42-11 in the weight throw at the Summit League indoor championships.

Zack Leahy, from Rossford High School, was a junior on the Wittenberg University men's basketball team.
He was second on the team in scoring this season, averaging 12.0 points per game. He also had 95 rebounds, 62 assists and 28 steals. Leahy was 111-of-148 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.
Wittenberg finished 17-10 this season.

Andrew Lee, from Elmwood High School, is a senior pitcher on the University of Findlay baseball team.

Jay Marquette, a Rossford resident, is a sophomore men's basketball player at Owens Community College.
As of Feb. 24, Marquette has played in all 29 games for Owens, making 14 starts. he is averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game and has 47 assists and 27 steals.

Mason Mayberry, from Bowling Green High School, is a freshman pitcher/infielder on the University of Findlay baseball team.

Julia Metzger, from Perrysburg High School, is a senior on the University of Oregon women's tennis team.
Through Feb. 17, Oregon is 8-1 with its only loss to Akron.
Metzger is 7-1 in singles and 6-2 in doubles in the nine dual meets.
