Bowling Green youth baseball starts its 64th season Saturday at Carter Park.
Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m.
Team pictures will be taken and teams will play scrimmages lasting approximately 60-90 minutes.
The league has approximately 410 players this season, ages 5-15.
The regular season begins Monday.
"Because our numbers are up in the T-Ball and Rookie divisions, our numbers are about the same as
last year," said Dunn, the organization’s president since 1982.
Dunn said the league has completed three major projects since the end of last season – the asphalt was
repaved within the facility, the fences and the hub building were repainted, and half of the Henschen
Building was repainted.
The projects cost $65,000 and the league took out a loan to cover the lost. The loan will be repaid over
10 years, Dunn said.
The league has played at the south end of Carter Park since 1991.
"The facility really looks great," Dunn said
Vinyl banners with faces of players in the league will be attached to back of each dugout on Diamonds 1,
2 and 3. The banners were designed by Fred Riggs, the league’s vice-president for travel baseball.
"Those should look really nice," Dunn said.
The organization will host eight tournaments this summer:
• Nations Baseball State Qualifier, ages 9-14, May 2-4.
• Nations Baseball National Qualifier/Carolyn and Mike Henschen Classic, ages 9-14, May 23-26,
approximately 60-70 teams.
• Nations Baseball 11-year-old and 16-year-old state tournaments, June 12-16, approximately 80-90 teams.

• The Great Black Swamp Classic, ages 11-18, June 26-29, approximately 100 teams with another 100 on a
waiting list.
• Northwest Ohio Firecracker Classic, ages 8-14, July 3-6. This is a new tournament.
"We’re not sure what the response will be, but it will be a good tournament," Dunn said, adding
he expects most of the teams to be from Ohio and Michigan.
• Great Lakes Ultimate World Series, ages 9-10, July 10-13.
• BG/Perrysburg House League All-Star Tournament, July 24-27. The tournament will have no elite or upper
level teams. The tournament will be played at Carter Park and Rivercrest Park in Perrysburg.
"We’re excited about this tournament because it will allow kids who aren’t necessarily playing
travel baseball all summer long to end the season with a tournament," Dunn said.
