11th Frame: Spring, summer bowling leagues forming (04-22-14)

0

As the winter bowling leagues are finishing up, many bowlers are already getting ready for the spring and
summer leagues which will begin soon with a special promotion for newer bowlers.
Al-Mar Lanes is involved with a new promotion called the "10 for 10 Leagues." Promoted
primarily nationally for youth bowlers, the Bowling Green bowling center will also offer leagues for
adults as well. There are also two combination adult/youth leagues.
The "10 for 10" leagues are designed for new bowlers. The name centers on paying $10 per week
for 10 weeks of bowling. Everyone who signs up and pays the total $100 fee will receive a new
entry-level bowling ball. If the fees are paid weekly, the ball will be received at the end of the
10-week season.
Those leagues begin in June.
To kick the warm weather leagues off are a Tuesday night "Tour the World" league which begins
May 13 at 7. Fees for the league are $20 per person and features three-person teams, bowling on various
oil patterns from the world tour. The Thursday evening league begins May 15 and there is a Mixed Trio
league, also at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person for that league.
The adult 10 for 10 leagues begin at noon June 10 and at 6 p.m. June 13. The Tuesday daytime league
features two bowlers per team, while the Friday evening league features four-person teams. The youth 10
for 10 league will run simultaneously with the Tuesday noon league, also starting June 10.
Al-Mar is also coordinating leagues in conjunction with its annual Kids Bowl Free program where youth
bowlers can bowl two games free each day during the summer. Free registration is required and the
bowling center staff can assist with that, if needed.
The Kids Bowl Free leagues are at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Those leagues involve four youth
per team and start June 11-12.
The adult-youth leagues are free for the Kids Bowl Free members and $5 for adults and bowl on Wednesdays
at 6 p.m. starting June 11 and Fridays at 6 p.m. starting June 13.
For more information on any of these leagues contact the center at (419) 352-4637.
Spring Madness: Al-Mar’s version of March Madness. "Spring Madness" concluded with Bob
Vanscoder and Gary Aring winning the two 64-person brackets.
Each earned $120 for their championships. Through a random draw, the bowlers were matched head to head in
the single elimination bracket.
The winners in the inter-league event were decided by a best of five format that covered two weeks for
each match.
Aring of the Elks League swept Steve Honeysuckle of the Eagles League, 3-0 in the finals in the one
bracket. Vanscoder of the American League took four games, 3-1, to down J.R. Damron from the Randy
Miller Memorial in the other bracket. Damron and Honeysuckle each received $60 as runners up.
Surviving the game: The six bowlers eliminated for Week 25 in Al-Mar’s "Surviving the Game"
with league and pins under average were: Vicki Schumacher, Ladies Major, 62; Kyle Friedley, American,
54; Dawn Scheele, Elks, 30; Pat Ruck, Stadium View, 14; Nathan Lucas, Eagles, 9; and Joe Kirkman,
American, 0. Those bowlers finished seventh through 12th in the season-long event and each earned $15.
