11th Frame: Al-Mar Lanes team wins inter-city tourney (04-15-14)

The Al-Mar Lanes team, composed of Todd Mason, Larry Long, Butch Naugle, Dean Bressler and Darold Junge,
won the annual Ohio Inter-City tournament which concluded Sunday at Crest Lanes in Warren.
Naugle led the team with a a 269 high in his 775 series; Junge added 237, 707; Bressler, 265, 693; Long,
218, 607 and Mason 218, 597. They finished with a 3,697 total pinfall with handicap.
Their actual total was 3,379, a consistent set of 1,100 games, besting the previous leaders by nine pins.
The team competed Saturday on the final weekend.
In addition on Sunday, Long paired with Paul Overhulse in doubles, each rolling a 746 series. Overhulse
shot a 300 game in his set. The total put them in second place with handicap. Their 1,492 actual gave
them 1,588 with handicap.
USBC awards: For the second consecutive week, a bowler in the Sentinel Classic rolled an honor score.
The league is bowling on the challenging United States Bowling Congress team event oil pattern. On April
7, Charles Easton began with a 289 game and followed with games of 267 and 248 for an 804 series.
Earlier this season, he recorded an 805 in the league. The previous week John Przybylski rolled a 300.

On Wednesday in the American League, Brad Simon, with a 219 average, began with a below average 181 game
on Wednesday.
He more than made up for it following with nearly all of the next possible 24 strikes bowling games of
278 and 300 to finish with a 759 series. It was his 14th career 300 game.
Youth of the Week: Youth bowlers who bowled the most pins over their average in any one game last week,
with pins over, were: (April 5) Destiny Garner, 123; Kelly Miller, 63; Brandon Knell, 69; Bodde Simon,
60; and (April 12): Quinn Beeker and Linda Alfaro, both 56; Brendon Kolkemeyer, 55; Alex Bookenberger,
51.
Year-end tourneys: Al-Mar has several running games throughout its leagues during the season.
Five of those reward participants with a year-end tournament funded by a small percentage of each entry.
There is currently nearly $4,900 payouts total in the combined tournament with $5,000 likely to be
accumulated by the time the tourneys roll.
The schedule for these tournaments with current balances of funds to be dispersed in each event as of
April 14: Scratch brackets May 5, $201; Poker, May 8, $717.30; 9-Pot, May 9, $355; Bingo, May 12,
$2,176; and handicap brackets, May 14, $1,443. Each event begins at 6:30 p.m. and reservations are
requested.
These events are open only to those who had a minimum number of participations during the year.
Surviving the game: The six bowlers eliminated for Week 23 in Al-Mar’s "Surviving the Game"
with league and pins under average were: Brian Close, Sentinel Classic, 152; Jim Grames, Randy Miller
Memorial, 60; Celia Johnson, Elks, 30; Marcia Wolford, Stadium View, 30; Wall Fraker, Elks, 28; and Rob
Treen, American, 27. These six each earned $5 for finishing in 19-24th place, inversely.
For Week 24, the six eliminated were: Dean Bressler, Randy Miller Memorial, 59; Linda Bombreys, Elks, 48;
Cindy Haas, Kelks, 34; Josh Mitchell, Randy Miller, 33; Jeff Bockbrader, American, 7; and Mary Crumley,
Ladies Major, 5. Those bowlers ranked 13-18 in the season long event, with each earning $10.
