To the Editor: Young writer believes all smoking ought to be banned

I think smoking should be banned. It is addicting, causes diseases, and is polluting.
Smoking is addicting. In cigarettes there is an addictive drug called Nicotine. Nicotine dependence means that you can't stop smoking even if you know it's bad for you.
Smoking can cause many diseases like different cancers, stroke, and heart failure. You can also have a shorter life span. According to The American Cancer Society tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the U.S.
Smoking causes air pollution. Cigarettes cause more air pollution then diesel cars according to a study done by the Cancer Institute in Italy. Therefore secondhand smoke is dangerous. Many people throw their cigarette butts out the car windows and that is also pollution.
Smoking is bad. If it's banned then people wouldn't get addicted or get diseases. If it's banned then the air would be easier to breathe.
