To the Editor: Women’s pay better …but still not enough

Jack Taylor suggested in a letter published in Wednesday’s paper that women should be happy that
President Obama signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act 2009 which "restored the
protections against pay discrimination….". Really? I think women would be a lot happier if in
2013, four years later, women were being paid more than 77 cents for every dollar paid to men. (This is
according to Census Bureau Data.) Granted, it’s still better than the 59 cents they were earning after
JFK signed the Equal Pay Act into law in 1963.
