To the Editor: Voters urged to be aware of changes

0

The Legislature and Governor have adopted Legislation which will make it more difficult for electors to
participate in the election process despite the lack of any evidence that there has been systemic voter
fraud in Ohio.
If you enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to vote early, don’t expect to receive the application for an
absentee ballot. SB 205 prohibits local Boards of Election (BOE) from mailing these applications, even
to poll workers. SB 205 provides that only the Secretary of State can mail unsolicited absentee General
Election ballot applications and then only if the Legislature adopts funding for it – which could be a
partisan issue.
To vote early, you will need to contact the Wood County Board of Election, at www.co.wood.oh.us/boe-click
on Voter Information to print the application. Or call (419) 354-9120, to request an absentee ballot.
Beware that additional postage may be required.
The BOE will notify an elector if there is an error in the information on the absentee ballot envelope
and the elector will have a limited period of time to correct the information and validate the ballot.
Please be aware that separate absentee ballot applications are required for each election this year, the
Primary on Tuesday, May 6 and the General Election on Tuesday, November 4.
Registered electors can still cast an In Person ballot at the BOE, however, the recently adopted SB 238
reduces the early election period from 35 to 30 days. Mailed ballots must be postmarked no later than
the day before the election or placed in the BOE drop box by 7:30 PM of election day.
Active, engaged electors are essential to sustain our Democracy.
