I am pleased to write in support of Ellen Scholl's re-election to the Bowling Green Board of Education. It has been my good fortune to work with Ellen as a fellow board member for the past six years, and I have witnessed firsthand her strong work ethic and unwavering dedication to the very best educational interests of our students. Her eight years of experience on the board, extensive knowledge of the issues facing the school district, and commitment to finding workable solutions to difficult problems are among the many assets she brings to the board.
These are challenging times for public education, and the circumstances demand board members who are able to seek out and cultivate innovative solutions to the problems facing us, especially that of maintaining our historically excellent school system in an environment of reduced state funding and an ever increasing number of unfunded mandates. During the next few years, the Bowling Green Board of Education will be faced with a number of critical decisions as we work to maintain the high quality schools our community expects and deserves. As we do this, it is imperative that we have experienced board members who have a full understanding of the challenges facing us, as well as an appreciation of the options we have in dealing with them.
Ellen Scholl is just such a board member. She is dedicated, hard working, levelheaded and pragmatic, a board member who always takes the time to collect the facts, thoroughly study the issues, and listen to members of the community before making a decision. She is not afraid to question existing practices that need to be changed, nor to defend those she believes to be in the best interest of the students and community. She is the kind of person all of us should want as a member of our school board. I hope you will join me in supporting Ellen Scholl for re-election on Nov. 5.
