When we read in the Oct. 7 Sentinel-Tribune that the City of Bowling Green was purchasing the Ridge School property, we were very pleased. The article described our First Ward council representative, Daniel Gordon, as a strong advocate for treating that space as park-land for our neighborhood. We couldn't be more grateful to Mr. Gordon for his efforts on our behalf.
As First Ward residents, we are quite proud of our part of the city and we are very happy to be living where we do. One thing we do not have, however, is a park. Our back yard borders the Ridge School playground. Our children, and now our grandchildren, have enjoyed having that play space on summer days and weekends. We were afraid we were losing it to an unknown buyer with unknown future plans. Knowing the land will become a park for us and for future generations is a happy outcome. We are grateful to the city for making that thoughtful purchase.
