How great it is that the old foes BGHS and Otsego High face off yet again in a classic Wood County battle?
This has all the makings of a great high school football game.
It's a backyard battle with the schools just over five minutes from one another - the little school vs. the big school; farm school vs. city school; the NLL vs. the SLL (now the NBC).
Many of the same families shop, worship, and work out at the community center in BG, and have one Friday night under the lights to get bragging rights for the year.
I have been part of this game myself. I fondly remember the good natured banter on the baseball diamonds, and at the Wood Country Fair during the summer leading up to the game with the opposition in the mid-to-late '90's.
Having tasted both sweet victory and bitter defeat, it in a way prepared me for these same feelings I had during times in my adult life.
Kudos to both the BG and Otsego Athletic Departments, schools boards, and coaching staffs for bringing this game back after years of layoff.
May the best team win under the Wood County Friday Night Lights.
