The expanded column on Jess Slagle's NCAA sportsmanship award was very much appreciated by those of us who bleed orange and brown for BGSU women's basketball. The fans who got on know Jess during her career do not find her receiving an award at all surprising. This young women has been the consummate team player for the women's team. Just as she demonstrated sportsmanship to her own team, the cited examples in the column show that she carried that over to her competitors as well. I think she demonstrated the total package that exemplifies a true college athlete - good student, good player, quality individual and a great ambassador for BGSU. Those who followed her career closely know that she sacrificed some of her own goals for the good of the team. For most of her career she played out of her normal position, willing to do what was necessary for her team. Congratulations to Jess for well-deserved recognition for sportsmanship, which is the greatest achievement of all. Joan Slebos Bowling Green |
