To the Editor: New school makes more sense for Eastwood

0

I am writing this letter in response to the many opinions I have seen in the Sentinel over the past few
months and all were against the building of an elementary school on the main Eastwood campus.
First of all, I have completely remodeled three farm houses over the past several years. My family and I
did 90 percent of the tear down and rebuilding. It was a lot of work and a lot of time. The only way it
was feasible at all was the fact that my labor was free. If I had hired this work done it would have
been 50 percent cheaper to build new homes. Remodeling inferior buildings and making them into new is
not cheaper, when you have to hire the labor.
When my kids were in school I can remember picking them up for after school activities at three different
buildings at three different times. Is this efficiency? It’s the same way for the school system
shuffling kids back and forth between buildings. Absurd!
I have attended school programs at the elementary. There is no place to park at either one. I have walked
a fourth of a mile away to get to the school. You can’t remodel things like this.
I ask you people to think about what is best for the schools and the students, not what is best for your
small town. Why should my grandchildren bypass a central campus on their way to remodeled inferior
buildings in Luckey and Pemberville? Why not remodel Webster since it is close to me? Business and the
people keep the town together, not the school buildings.
When you build new, you have a state of the art building with extremely low maintenance. You remodel an
old barn; you still have an old barn with high maintenance costs and inefficacies.
Every other school around here has 1 campus and all are just beautiful and efficient. There is plenty of
parking and all have up to date technology and communication tools for learning. They will be more than
sufficient for the rest of all our lifetimes and probably our grandchildren too. Let’s not pass up this
opportunity.
