Why marriage equality? It is simply the right thing to do. It is not the task of government to legislate the relationships we have, it is the task of government to protect all of its citizens equally.
When Senator Portman came forward about marriage equality after his son came out, it demonstrates that many of us are only concerned with a right when it affects us.
Jim Petro former GOP Ohio Attorney General came forward in support of marriage equality when his daughter came out and married her partner. According to Huffington Post and other publications Petro did not hesitate to throw his support not only to his daughter and her partner but to the movement. Mr. Petro or one of the many volunteers may be asking you for your signature to overturn Ohio's ban on same sex marriage. I have signed the petition as part of my civic duty and encourage you to do the same.
Our constitution is based on making certain that all of the citizens are protected. Our goal should be no discrimination of any kind in the United States of America.
