Steven Knape, my neighbor, is running for a seat on the Bowling Green City School Board. Steve, will make a wonderful school board member. He is smart, articulate, compassionate and fair. We have had many conversations about education in general, his daughter's elementary school, and other community issues in which his good judgment comes to the forefront.
Beyond these important personal qualities, Steve has emphasized a critical point. We need school board members who can bring various points of view to the table. Bowling Green Schools are at a point where many reductions have been made and we will have to decide what kind of public school we want in the years to come. Are schools important to our community? Steve thinks so. Do we need to listen to all constructive input? Steve thinks so. And he has the background as a church pastor to moderate contentious debates, which sometimes occur in congregations as well as school communities.
We are fortunate to have good people continually willing to step up and commit themselves to serving on the school board. I recommend a vote for Steven Knape.
