| To the Editor: Keyed truck: Why? |

Last Friday, I went grocery shopping at three stores. When I got home, I discovered a 15-inch long scratch on my driver's side door. I had been keyed! What joy do you get out of destroying other people's property? Now, every time I get into my truck, I am reminded of how ugly some people can be. Dick Conrad Bowling Green |

It's very frustrating to park in a lot, return to your car, and find some monstrous truck parked beside you. It's no fun to back out in to traffic just hoping that no vehicles are coming because you can't see around some guy's trophy truck. Maybe that is why you got keyed.
More generally, people should ride bicycles like bananaman. If you need to drive every once in a while, get a nice economy car. It's cheaper for you, better for the environment, and it cuts down on noise pollution.
as for a truck I personally like driving a truck.
I laughed at Jill's suggestions that bicycling is unrealistic and that bananaman is "jealous." I do 95% of my traveling by bike or on foot, and I am not a fictional character. When I see someone spend $80 to fill the tank of one of these ridiculous vehicles, I am certainly not jealous. I would much rather spend my money on other things and be healthy and fit.
It has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with rotten, bored, punks!
As one of those Democrats/Socialists you ridicule, I can assure you that I don't envy the rich. I actually think that they are pathetic. A life in quest of more and more unnecessary material objects seems like such an empty and unfulfilling existence. I am not a religious person, but I thought that greed was sinful?
All I'm saying is that there are a lot of inconsiderate people out who drive ridiculous trucks that they don't need. Usually, it's pretty easy to tell the difference between a "work" truck and a "vanity" truck. Those who drive that latter type are indeed pathetic in my eyes. As for which type, Mr. Conrad drives, I have no idea.
I don't condone vandalism, period, but c'mon, it's just a stupid truck. It's not like someone broke the guy's arm. There's a little scratch on his truck. I'm sure he can still drive it. There's no need to whine about it.
If someone flattened your bicycle tires, would it be, "...just a stupid bike"?
The rest of it is just unnecessary criticism and judgment. It's not anyone's call to determine whether someone's vehicle, house, hairstyle, or way of life is "ridiculous" or "pathetic". It's also not your call to decide what others need or don't need to have in their lives. Nobody's deciding that for you, are they?
Oh. Maybe that's where this comes from. Now I get it.
Nevertheless, you are correct bananaman is being very judgmental. I understand that most people won't agree with me, and I don't get to decide what others need to have.
Here's what I think: Someone who spends $50,000 on a truck he doesn't need could have spent $20,000 on a sensible car and given the rest to cancer research (or whatever) and the world would be better off. It's his choice, but I think it was a stupid choice, and we are all free to make stupid choices in America.
If the truck is jacked up in the air with lifts and has sexist stickers on the windows, my reaction is "that guy has more money than brains."
