To the Editor: How many have to die because ‘gun addicts’ want to ‘pack heat?’

The letters to the editor from Davisson and Phillips were expected and predictable. The diversion of
attention from one issue to a non-related other issue is a standard method of evading an issue about
which one does not wish to talk or about an issue that is indefensible. This technique, I would bet, is
right out the NRA textbook, right along with the erroneous comment about the rise in home invasions in
England immediately following the restriction on possession of firearms by private citizens. It is
almost pitiful to see people spouting NRA propaganda right out of the playbook without knowing what they
are talking about. And the writers still have not answered the question about how many people have to
die because gun addicts get high on "packing heat." So I will ask again: "How many people
have to die because you get high on ‘packing heat’?" I await your answer.
As regards the issue of guns in the park, can not the Ohio Supreme Court ruling be appealed to the U.S.
Supreme Court? If so, would this not put a hold on any litigation about gun laws? If not, then I would
guess that we will need to begin the process to initiate a constitutional convention of delete the
second amendment. If there is no willingness to compromise on the so-called gun rights issue, then we
need to eliminate the issue by getting rid of the second amendment, which has outlived its purpose, if
ever there was a legitimate purpose.
