To the Editor: Grand Rapids reader upset about cartoon

Really? You seriously thought that it would be appropriate to reprint the "cartoon" from the Miami Herald in the Sentinel Tribune on July 17, 2013? No matter how you feel about the George Zimmerman trial outcome, teaching kids to shoot their classmates is, to say the least, a very poor choice. Make your statement in some other way, but not a cartoon about kids killing kids. You may call it satire, but not all young people understand that.
As a long time subscriber of the Sentinel Tribune, I am having second thoughts about my choice to support this newspaper. Your decision to print that cartoon showed a very real lack of responsibility to your readers and their young families. I can only hope and pray that with experience, comes much better judgement on your part.
