It is always heartwarming to see video clips of rush- hour traffic on the freeway coming to a standstill as folks jump out of cars to rescue a hapless dog. Hooray for humanity. Fast forward to midmorning of July 4 when destinations do not include work, but merely a trip to secure more hot dog buns for the barbecue. A duckling is trapped in one lane of the AW Trail with concrete barriers on each side. I exit my car and race after him. We run back and forth time and time again as I beg for someone in the stopped line of cars behind me to help. No one does and then horns are honking and I know the little fella is doomed as I am forced to drive away. Perhaps if he had fur instead of feathers it would have made a difference. Hope you enjoyed your hot dogs. Karen Wolf Bowling Green |

I stopped traffic on Jackman once to help an injured dog. I stood there with my arm up and a look on my face that said STOP NOW BECAUSE I AM NOT MOVING, and I sent out energy saying the same. They stopped and we were able to move the dog. Next time, just remember to BELIEVE inside that they are stopping.
Hopefully the little duck's survival instincts were solid and he made it.
