To the Editor: Fracking ban a waste of time, money

Mayor Edwards is talking out of both sides of his mouth. First, he has said that he doesn't believe that the citizens of Bowling Green should support the charter amendment to ban hydraulic fracturing. Then he and City Council went ahead and passed a ban. Were they afraid that the citizens of Bowling Green would do their homework and recognize that this ban is something that will never happen in Bowling Green? The mayor should be more concerned that since the state has sole authority to regulate the practice, and that state law clearly preempts local law in this area, he's potentially exposing the city to costly lawsuits.
What I can't understand is why our elected officials are willing to waste their time and our tax dollars on such a foolish exercise. I hope the mayor has a good answer
